Is this limb damage bad?

Just noticed a little carbon peeled off on the edge of my Hoyt carbon spider limb. It’s a sliver, but I’m not sure if I should be worried.

Actually, I think it’s fine. My wife is worried. She is encouraging me to go buy a new bow. That would normally be awesome, but elk season is 2 weeks away!

Is that carbon sliver something to worry about?

Carbon fiber is funny. It could be real bad and could only be a scuff. Hard to tell. I wouldn’t trust it

This is the best case scenario for a reason to tell your wife that she is right!

It’s FINE! Sand it and dob it with glue and go hunt. After you’re done get it covered under warranty if you’re the original owner. I’ve seen this on a lot of bows. It’s a non issue where it’s located at.

I’d go get that new bow, dial it in and go hunt. Deal with the warranty stuff when you get home.

OR Archer is spot on. There is no worry with that. When the season is over take it to a Hoyt dealer and Hoyt will warranted them. Sand and glue, good as new.

On a side note, I would also buy a new bow since you apparently got the blessing and not mention that this one is fine.

While I generally wouldn't be super nervous about that, I would worry about whether or not the warranty will be valid if you sand and glue/epoxy it before they see it.



On a side note, I had a bow blow up on me as I reached full draw 20 years ago and I still remember exactly the sound of the limbs blowing up, the feel of those pieces of shrapnel raining all over me and my shoulder has never been the same!

Just take pictures before you do your work on it. Then fix it. It won’t be a problem. Hoyt never actually looks at the limbs, they are warranted through a Hoyt dealer who will order new ones while you keep the old ones so your bow is functional. Then once the new limbs come in, switch them out and then they will go to Hoyt. That’s at least how our local dealers do it.

I guess I have had a different experience. I don't think that is anything to worry about. But don't count on it being warrantied by Hoyt. Almost exactly a year ago I had the same thing happen to a carbon defiant. They ended up not covering it. This was outside of anything my dealer could do. I shot Hoyt for 10 years and the 2 previous issues I had they covered. One was a very similar issue the other was twisted limbs on a game master II. Left me with a sour taste in my mouth.

Like I said I think it's a non-issue but I had an experience where it wasn't covered. So be aware that it isn't a guarantee.

It's fine, not uncommon on Hoyts. I wouldn't get s new one now. All the new models will be coming out over next couple of months.

Just periodically remind the wife your taking your life in your hands shooting this thing!

Its probably more trouble then it worth o get a replacement limb, and honesty it can happen to the replacement just as fast. This has been common on hoyt limbs for years

I wouldn’t worry about that in the slightest. Take a silver sharpie and make a dot or line where it currently ends on both sides of the sliver. Shoot it and see if it’s creeping. After all hoyt claims dry fires galore. Lol

I've had this happen on several Hoyts. Pretty common really. I wouldn't be worried about it. I've had worse splinters come off. I'd keep shooting it.

If I was in your shoes I would clip and sand that and buy a new bow since the wife gave you the green light. I would be worried like you about getting a new bow so close to season so I would just hunt with the carbon spyder and work on setting g up the new bow.

I bought my Hoyt alpha Max 4 years ago and noticed a sliver like that and searching around I got the same info of clipping it and sanding it map that’s what I did. I always look for a new bow but I am so use to my alpha max that I have a hard time changing.
