Is the 6.8 western gaining traction or did the 7mm prc finish it off?

That’s a recoil level between 30-06 and 300wm levels. In a heavier rifle with a can, maybe not terrible. But not remotely on the light recoil spectrum. Certainly not by Rokslide standards.

I tried my lightweight 6.8W without a can (I was waiting for a direct thread adapter to arrive) and had the brake off as well. It was, by a good bit, the most unpleasant rifle I have ever shot.

When I bought the rifle, I wanted a final weight between 9-10lbs including a 14oz DA Nomad and a larger scope than I normally carry.

Once I mounted the Nomad, it became very pleasant to shoot. I wasn't scared of it at all.

Of course, the 6ARC Howa Mini I was shooting while the 6.8W barrel cooled did not kick at all.

I think the short mags have a quick sharp recoil that to me is worse the a slower recoil of the same force. My first 300wsm is where I noticed this. Once I put my thunder beast Magnus it really slows down the pulse to a gentle push. Made me giggle the first time I touched it off!
