Is anyone else going broke because of deals "you just can't pass up?"

It was a good week. I only bought 2k bullets, 2 stocks and a skid steer.

I did save a lot of money when the classifieds were not popping up.

Not going broke over it but like most of the other people here, I enjoy trying new gear and getting rid of stuff that dosent get used.

Right now I have a dead air nomad ti xc in the shopping cart and I’m right on the edge with making the purchase. I havnt even looked at new guns or other hunting gear for awhile, but I have spent a lot on reloading supplies and fly fishing gear over the past year.

My goal right now is to use the gear I have and spend the money to hunt more either on flights or guided stuff.
 
I used to look at firearms and optics as an “investment” but the classifieds page shows otherwise. Lots of people sitting on guns they can’t sell. Let alone make money on. Buy them because you enjoy them not because you’re trying to turn a profit if you need to off load them

I formerly owned a brewery, worked in the brewing industry about 10 years, and quit drinking about 2 weeks ago.

But my wife still drinks and keeps beer in the fridge.

@SAUMan , I have a few great deals in the classifieds. You need a previously owned wildcat barrel, brass, and dies. I think you also need a Tikka barrel and some staball powder. You know you want it ;)

My wife is great at helping me meter my hunting purchases.... It sucks at times, but I'd have $10k on my CC in a heartbeat if she didn't keep me honest.

I plan a dollar budget for the year on what I'll spend gear and shooting wise and plan out each item. If I spend it all, I have to sell something to acquire something else.

I don't think I necessarily have a spending problem.... I just really really really like trying new gear so I can find what suits me best. I'm starting to get to the point with my rifles where I know what I need and like.
 
I'm a sucker for a good deal but if I buy a rifle for a great price I almost always resell it for a little profit. I don't use credit cards anymore, I got myself in a bind and felt like I was drowning in debt with 8k in credit card debt at one time. I couldn't freaking stand it.

If I see a really great deal on something and I have the cash handy, we keep cash stuck away we can get our hands on, I'll buy it. I like nothing more than buying something cheap and flipping it for a profit.

Unfortunately, I never find anyone willing to pay anywhere near the cost of my stuff. If I sell it, I'm going to take a bath on it no matter how far below retail it sells for. About the only way I can approach getting my money back is to post whatever it is on GB auctions at a starting price if $1 and no reserve. I have seen it time and again. I can advertise something for say, $800 and never get a nibble. But let me start it for $1 and have someone bid on it, people can't stand it! They say, "Look what a deal THAT guy is about to get! I'll sneak in and get it at the end for a dollar more!" Well what happens, is people see the price going up, so they figure this has to be a much better piece than that one for $800 that no one wanted that sells for $1100 retail. Then they want it before the other guy gets it. They'll end up over $900 for an item they wouldn't sniff for $800 just because someone else wanted it. Reminds me of my dogs when I offer one something and she turns her nose up, so I offer it to the other one who nibbles it, then I have a fight for it! CRAZY! Problem is, GB charges so many fees and taxes, the bids stay lower than they use to, and you lose a small chunk of what you made.

If I was real smart, I'd get an auctioneers license somehow and hold my own local gun auctions. I've attended some in small towns, and watched used items sell for $150 or more what you could get it for new at Bass Pro... and that's A LOT!!

Charging a 5% sell fee, I'd be rich in a matter of months!

Oh no! I can't plan anything. If I see something for $X that is a "steal," I'm going to FIND money go get it before it's gone! Many times, It's my debit card I'm swiping, though I have 1 CC dedicated to this addiction that is now about maxed near $17,000... and that's not the only card involved by any means.

I forgot to mention the Tikka wildcat. I, too, have a Tikka barrel for sale. They go for pennies - probably the least expensive barrel ypu can buy. Even a bit cheaper than Savages. Mi e is an unfired .270 WSM I got on a beautiful laminate stainless because I'd pined over them for years. Didn't really get a super deal. Maybe $100 off. Before firing it, I decide it's going to kick too much. (I have 2 bad shoulders - surgery on one and need it on the other.) What to do with it? Needs to stay a short mag, lest I have to buy a new bolt for over $300 or at the minimum, a bolt stop and swap them out converting to a long magnum. I have a .300 SAUM and a 6.5 SAUM, both full customs. I've had a 7mm, and wouldn't mind having another, so I considered that. A little less punch to the shoulder vs a WSM. Even less is a PRC (6.5), but I became disenchanted with the 6.5 PRC a few years ago right after it came out. Built one and had rather have a good 6.5x.284N.

Saw this ad at Unknown Munitions! They got the action from me and installed a new Ace 24" barrel identical to the Tikka contour so I could use my beautiful laminate stock in 6mm/6.5 PRC. I love a .240 Wby, and I designed a 6mm wildcat right after the SAUMs came out called a .245 Sabertooth, which was a necked down 7mm SAUM. It was a bit finicky and inconsistent (my wildcat - used a Lilja barrel), and the accuracy started leaving fast. May have had a carbon ring, but didn't know to have it scoped then. While I was experimenting with the 6mm/7mm SAUM, I got the chance to blow UP a huge coyote sneaking around my food plot, and hit a 7pt buck so hard at 20 yards facing me, I knocked him heat over feet backward. Hits on medium game and predators proved violently spectacular and particularly devastating. I LOVED IT! I reinvented it as a .255 Sabertooth (.257 version of the same cartridge). This one was super accurate with 5-shot groups around a half inch (Krieger barrel wrapped in some type of resin under a steel sleeve. Odd. Duplicated factory .257 Wby ballistics with about 10 - 12 grains less powder!

Back to the 6mm/6.5 PRC (or 6mm PRC Short [for short]). It's here and test fired at UM, but I have yet to fire it, and it was here about early November this past year. After getting my bushings all right, I was able to form a round, then I loaded it hot enough to blow the moon up - found this out by talking to others who'd done it already. One or 2 of them. I am smarter than to fire that around. I will reduce charge by around 4 grains and probably change powders, too. Much of my money goes to reloading components. With wildcats, I end up messing up several pieces of good virgin brass trying to correctly form a viable case for loading.

Hey we can form kind of a support group, just buy stuff around in circles from eachother to scratch the itch.

I've literally bought the same item back after selling it previously, multiple times. I bought a Credo here, used it for a season, sold it, and a week later bought a different Credo same exact scope. I think I'm gonna click on Reburn's link, lol for real. I don't have bounced checks or unpaid bills, but still kind of ashamed of myself sometimes.
