Does anyone know what all these marks are? They are more in the middle and near end to crown. I don't think its carbon or anything but I have know idea. I dont think its anything to worry about but looking at other barrels, they really dont have all these dents or cuts like this one does. It's weird to me.

The 140 EH are about. .5" groups. Just shot it today. Browning said to send it in. But I'll wait until I'm done hunting in November to do that since it's shooting fine. I have an antelope hunt in a few weeks as well.

Looks like corrosion pits. Even stainless can get little pits, especially if humidity contacts the fouling since there are a number of acidic compounds produced burning powder. Those are really small.

If your gun shoots good I’d not send it back or they might change the barrel with one that shoots worse. 🙂

How many rounds are on the barrel? I've found far worse corrosion pits and worm looking markings in some high end manufactured barrels I bought 2nd hand with lower round counts. Clr/iosso/thoroclean cleaned a lot of it out, but some still remained. The barrels shot just fine.

I’ve seen barrels that were horribly pitted that shot beautifully.

The pitting is usually caused by humidity getting on and under the bits of copper jacketing in bore. If you live in a humid climate, this can be easily prevented by keeping a light coat of oil in the bore.

PS - unless there is already an observed problem, practically no good can come from looking at your bore with a bore scope. Most people just worry themselves horribly. It’s like looking at a razor blade or surgical needle under a microscope.

There's maybe 350. Not really used at all.

I live in Florida and there's no way to avoid humidity. Typically, I only shoot September/October through March/April. It's just to hot to shoot and even now I can only shot 4-5 rounds before barrel is screaming hot. By the way, the only reason I got the bore scope was because I noticed accuracy declining. My barrel was not being cleaned as good as I thought. I used bore tech, now I use the thorough clean my brother recommend. Night and day difference. Definitely recommend that stuff, bore tech not so much.

I’m a big fan of either Birchwood Casey Barricade or Hornady One Shot cleaner on a patch after every trip to range or after cleaning. I rarely leave a bore without some level of protection.

With that said, bore scopes are useful to get an idea how effective is your cleaning regimen, but it can also create some false alarms. If the rifle shoots, don’t worry about it.

I live on a 1/2 mile wide peninsula surrounded by saltwater. Even it a gun gets shot once, it gets swabbed with an oiled patch when put away.

If it’s been shot a lot, it needs a good cleaning. Moisture will creep under carbon and copper coating the bore and create those worm like pitting patterns.

The no clean thing so common here doesn’t work for me.

I would recommend getting some type of safe / cabinet and using a golden rod. The golden rod is simply a heater that keeps the inside of the safe warm and prevents moisture condensation.
