Right now I've got an AMR on a 24" duplex frame for my multi-day trips, which it's awesome for, but I'd like something smaller with easier access for day hunts/hikes. A buddy just got a 22 Mag, and I really like that layout for ease of access, but now I'm conflicted as the Woodsman looks pretty attractive too. Just looking for some opinions that might aid my decision. Thanks in advance!

I used the 22 mag this previous year for all of my day tips and all of the filming trips. For me, I'm needing to carry my tripod and spotting scope and have fairly quick access, so the side pockets add some protection and are a must for me, especially now that I'm used to them. I put a small and medium pocket on the back panel and get along just fine, I have yet to be hurting for more room. I like the panel load a little better than the center zip as far as pulling things (camera stuff for me) in and out of the bag constantly. I think the woodsman is set up better to be used as an overnight or couple night pack if needed, over the 22 mag. I haven't gotten my hands on the woodsman yet, but I do have the Reckoning. I'm a big fan of the 22 mag for it's great layout and simplicity.

I pick the 22mag over the woodsman. Reason being that I dislike center-buckle packs and the 22 mag can be easily modified to compress "normally" (like the mountain warrior, rambler, tahr, etc).

The 22 mag doesn't have a meat shelf does it?

It works very good though. Here I have the bag stuffed full of camera gear and a life sized sheep cape in between the bag and frame. Walked for about 6 hours like that and never had to re tighten the straps or make any adjustments. Total was 60 lbs.
