Keep in mind that new vehicles sometimes get a great interest rate. 3% loan vs 7% (used car loan) will sometimes make the new vehicle more appealing when comparing monthly payment. Also, insurance rates on some vehicles are sometimes quite different. Some of the larger insurance companies charge more for the salvage title vehicles also.

Had a 2007 frontier. Put 205,000 on it before I traded it. Only issue I ever had with it was a leak in the A/C system. That was it.

The best prices on new/used Ram/Jeep/Chevy can be found at Dave Smiths in Idaho. I'm no insider but I think that is where unsold inventory ends up. Worth checking out their website.

We bought a brand new truck from dave smith I. April and they were super easy to deal with. I'd recommend them for anyone shopping for a vehicle

So what I'm hearing is the Frontiers are solid vehicles. Maybe just a little outdated appearance/interior? I can deal with that; just want a reliable vehicle that I can hopefully get 10 years out of.

What about a wrangler unlimited? i know the 4 door wrangler goes against what a wrangler is; but I would want the 4 door for the space; put on some bigger tires and a roof rack to carry gear and allow enough room in the back for the dog. Could be a sweet rig for hunting/camping

I know a couple guys with Jeeps, and they are solid, but I dont think they have a track record for high mileage with little/no problems. I'm not saying Nissans are infallible, but from past personal experience, I have put a ton of miles on Nissans and had really no issues. Like I said, I put over 200k on my Nissan Titan with zero problems other than changing oil, fluids and tires. If you can pick up a 2013-2015 Xterra Pro-4X with really low miles, it will be substantially less expensive than a wrangler 4 door, especially a Rubicon. I went with the Xterra because the way the back seats can be easily removed, and make a completely flat cargo space. I am 6'1" and I can sleep comfortably in it for those bonzai trips to the trailhead or weekend hunts where I just dont really want to mess with setting up tent, etc. I put 265/75/16 BFGs on my Xterra, and it will go anywhere I could ever need it to go for hunting purposes. Its every bit as capable as a stock Jeep, off-road. The down sides are, you are pretty much committed to it, as the resale on Nissans is low. You dont get alot of the cool factor stuff that you see in more modern designs. Like I said, the current gen Frontier and Xterra have been out since 2005, which means their technology is even older, its damn near a 20 year old design. The interior is pretty cheap feeling, and the seats wear out, so after 100K or so, you pretty much have to get seat covers. BUT, I like that I can load up my X, and be confident in driving 15 hours to Montana, or 8 hours to Wyoming, or go spend a week in the rainy spring in rural Nebraska. I never have to worry about my vehicle breaking down or having a major issue.

Titans are the most underrated 1/2 ton on the market imo. After having and fixing many from all of the "big 3" I bought a Titan for our shop/errand truck. It's been abused and neglected and is still pulling like it's new, it'll put work my 3/4's in many cases. I heard for a long time about the Toyota (and to a lesser extent Nissan) and their reliability. After owning one I'll never go back to a 'murican from the big 3

Thanks again Titan.

I currently have a 05 grand cherokee; and only issue I have had with it is the water pump needing replaced. But for the first time ever, someone told me that Jeeps stood for "Just Empty Every Pocket." haha.

I'll look at the Xterra's. Jeeps do seem to retain their value. Do the Xterra's back seats fold down or you have to physically remove them?

might have just found a 2015 Pro-4x. 37k miles, and asking 23,400. Seems to check out as far as fair on KBB

You can do either. The backs fold down, while the seat portion rotate up and forward. However, I've rotated up, they have these clips you can just pop them out and remove them. With them removed the back lay perfectly flat. You then use 8gallon Action Packer totes that are exactly the same height. If you do this, you have a perfectly flat surface from the back of the drivers seat to the tail gate. If you do. It remove the seats, just rotate them forward, you still have good cargo area, it's just not perfectly flat. If I just need the space I can leave the seats in, but if I know I want to be sleeping in the truck I take them out. It literally takes just a couple seconds to pop them out or put them in. Here's a vid I found on YouTube, not my Xterra, but it shows how the seats come out and how the cargo area is after folded down.

Thanks titan. I actually pulled the trigger on the pro4x today. Felt like too good of a deal and seeing the cargo space sealed it. Seems like a solid hunting and camping rig with good 4x4 capability.

cool deal, I got a steal of a deal on mine too. I got a 2013 a few years ago, with only 7K miles on it, for 21. I've since put 89,000 miles on it and its been great. I got an Army surplus trailer from govplanet.com for 450 bucks too, that I use as a utility trailer, so I have the option of a "pickup bed" if need be. The great thing, because the X has such a short wheelbase, I can fit 2 cars, my trailer, and my canoe in my 2 car garage!

I have had a tacoma and my mom has had 2 frontiers and they were all three great trucks. All proved to be extremely reliable. I really don't see the point in that size truck though. All three of the trucks got around 17mpg. My last truck was a 2015 f-150 and it got around 18-19 mpg, had a lot more space and capability. I would look for a lightly used Chevy or Ford 1/2 ton or maybe a tundra.

Thanks awal. After looking at a couple of those midsize ones; you're right - there just isn't any room in the back of those extended cab versions.

I went with a '15 Xterra Pro-4x. Might not get the best mileage; but it seems rugged and what I need right now in my life is something that isn't going to break down and have issues for at least 5 years.
