Unfortunately, I’m still a spin guy. I’m hoping that changes while I’m here, but for now I’m still a rookie throwing a big spinner. I just purchased another rod/reel setup to have a float rod as well. That’s a whole new deal.

I was actually just watching some YT videos of guys fishing in the Orofino area just under the Dworshak dam. They were in a boat but some areas looked wadeable.

Dang, @Marble great work!! That’s goals right there! If you ever need a fishing partner you know where to reach me!! I’ll drive and buy the beer
If you roll through here, let me know.

You can float fish here and have success, but fly fishing will get you a lot more fish. And fly fishing is difficult to learn. Casting is difficult, but fishing is combining the two. I would encourage you to get a fly rod set up if you are interested. Lots of YouTube videos, and if there is a fly shop near you, they will either have free classes or people that can teach you.

I'm trying to buy a drift boat right now...if that happens, even someone 2ho has never fished with a fly rod could do it.

I fished 7 hours yesterday. I was smoked... wading and walking for that long. Felt like i ran a marathon. Landed a ton but lost 3 or 4 times that.

That just means you actually like to catch fish instead of looking cool lol

We fished with Belknap guide service near Lewiston in October. We did well on the salmon and landed a couple of 7' sturgeon but only one steelhead.

The steelhead were slow for everyone but our guide was a great guy to spend a day on the river with.

Try the Wallowa river in North east Oregon, About 2.5 hours from Boise. Easy access, lots of fish. Wait for warmer weather. Around the end of February. If you want nicer fresher steelhead book a guided trip on the Oregon coast.

First time out steelie fishing and had way more luck than I ever expected!! First day I felt completely useless. Second day I stumbled into a super nice guy who was glad to help me out a bit. Definitely took a certain technique I never would have gotten had I not had him to show me. Caught 4 in one afternoon. All 31-36 inches. What a day! Thanks again for all the pointers!
