Idaho Non-Resident Tag Sale

I've been doing this for a long time and never seen anyone buy more than 2 people tags. One guy was a idfg employee buying one for his pard.

People will always complain, but it takes dedication to hunt here and if one day in December is too much for you, this probably isn't the best fit.

They literally had to implement a dedicated line at all regional offices for people buying 5+ tags.

I have faith in them. I also believe it will be a draw in 2026.

I hate the ability for someone to buy multiple tags for people but I really just dont see how making people provide a BC or ML would solve the problem and not just create a massive amount of others. Add in that the determination on a lot of this would be made by a cashier at a local sporting goods store.

What about people that are divorced and remarry and their kids keep dads last name? Do you think that a cashier at Sportsmans would be able to make a determination there?

What about my situation...my mom couldnt help me with hunting...she knew nothing about it so it was largely done via my uncle (different last name) or my brother (not listed on a birth certificate) . How would that situation be handled?

Remember we are talking about nonresidents only. I still like the idea of no proxy buying except for your kids and spouse. Maybe no proxy buying period. I can see how the proof is difficult to obtain and assess.

Yea but those situations can occur regardless of which state one is a resident of. I like the idea too. Just curious on how it could be handled or if it would just open an entire other can of worms bigger and meaner than the current problem.

Why is it that those that won't put the necessary time and effort into getting a tag never accept this response?
Exactly.
It's funny the same guys that want a draw will end up with a less than 10% chance of getting a tag.

The one guy in front of me...and the 2 behind were residents all buying 5 or more tags for others.
The guy in front of me tried to buy more then 5 tags. He was on the phone wheeling and dealing the entire time we were waiting. It was obvious he didn't even know a couple of them that he tried to buy for....he had to keep looking up the guys names in his texts, one didn't have an IDFG account, one didn't have a hunter safety card.

Overall, I think IDFG does a great job and like the system...it just has a couple kinks some guys are making money from.

Question because I don’t know.

Do outfitters have tags in general units put on the side or are they likely buying them for their clients?
I witnessed four guys from Ca that were buying 5 plus tags for “clients” and another Utah guide buying tags. Are they actually guiding these people I have no idea? But it seems to be.

That is madness in my mind, as I have bought non resident tags for 30 plus consecutive years with about 15 years of two tags. Crossing my fingers they simply adjust the process slightly and all the whining and complainers don’t get it changed to a draw.
Outfitters and guides were one of the main sticking points last year. They definitely have some ears with the rural legislators. Tweaking how tags are purchased now will affect their business, as would a draw. Until that is figured out, I’d be surprised if anything gets changed.

Isn't it already a <10% chance of getting some of those tags with the current system?
(Unless you spend the $$ to travel there or have someone wait in line, at which point it's just pay-to-play.)
I would say so. I've been hunting in ID since '14, back then I'd buy my tag in July when my then Resident buddy would buy his, with that being said, i haven't been able to get a tag for myself since '19, and i have been in the fray every year. My son has gotten a tag in '20 and '21, but not one since!
