Just got home Friday Night/Morning at 4 AM from the long drive back from Idaho to CA. Spent a total of 14 days solo of 16 available and took this Shiras bull on day 12. He measures out at 36" wide.

Out of the 3 days I spent scouting the unit and the 14 I was in it hunting he is the one and only Moose I saw! I saw Elk, Deer, Bear and shot a few Spruce Grouse for dinner and woke up to Wolves howling several mornings within a mile of my camp but could never pinpoint them exactly before they stopped howling. The plan was to get it done with the bow but after seeing the lack of sign and moose sightings I decided to leave the bow in the truck to ensure I would get a shot if I saw a moose. An absolute ton of planning went into this hunt from drawing the tag to being prepared to handle 450lbs of meat back to CA that this makes for one of my most memorable hunts to date.

Nice job Craig! I can't even begin to imagine what all goes into a solo moose hunt!!!! Congrats and great looking Shiras.

Ditto on what camera? It takes Great pics!

Nice going and a drop tine to boot! I butchered my first AK moose solo and let me tell you that's WORK! I see you tied his leg to a tree to assist in the butchering - good thinking. I didn't have any trees to tie the legs too so I had to rest a leg on my shoulder, make some cuts, and then drop the leg because it was digging into my shoulder - it was a real biiiitch. Congrats on your first moose!

Your not kidding!! Cutting that guy up by myself was a marathon! Caping him made it much more time consuming and difficult.

It took me 8 straight hours from beginning to completion.
