Idaho Files Criminal Complaint Against Ryan Lampers Over Trophy Deer, Lion, and Wolf Cases

"In Idaho, a defendant is bound over to district court following a preliminary hearing in felony cases, where the prosecuting attorney must demonstrate probable cause that a crime was committed and that the defendant is responsible. If the magistrate judge finds sufficient evidence, the case is referred to district court for further proceedings."

“If convicted, Lampers could face up to 27 and a half years in prison, and a lifetime revocation of his hunting, fishing, and trapping licenses.”

I wondered why he sold his house and disappeared. I feel bad for his kids, really. Obviously he’s not going to prison for 27 years but this is way more serious than I thought.

Exactly my feelings. His kids and wife. Any man would really be struggling with the idea of 27 years away from them.

Seams strange you can be an illegal and commit serious crimes and get away with it but a game infraction and your locked up for 27 years.
IF he did the crime he's only got himself to blame.
Sad to see people throw away their lives and everything they love in the name of social media influencing. It's an evil monster that eventually eats you.

Yeah no kidding.

He screwed up big time but 27 years is dumb considering what’s going on. Probably get a year or two with no hunting rights.

I feel for the wife and kids. Makes you wonder how often this sort of thing happens.

I don’t think the 27 years is over the game infractions those are misdemeanors More for the larceny charge. That’s the felony.

We’ve seen time and time again that poaching game animals is not what the system cares about.

But the combination of being an influencer, involving wolves, wolf bounties, and the political persuasion of people who work in government and media, that’s where this case is uniquely likely to be made an example of.

For a 175" deer!! Now that is pretty stupid. Go buy one at an estate auction and get creative with the pics! Now the wolf that Id get fined if caught $100K+++ I get PAID in Idaho $2000 if I shoot it? The things you learn on here make it worth the price of admission some days.

When are is the general hunting public going to stop worshipping these “influencers”?
Never, there is plenty of them that have got caught (gritty, bowmar, greentree) they all still have plenty of ball worshippers and other DB’s in the hunting industry that will tell you how great of a guy they are.

He stole money from the F4WM and ID&FG. I hope he gets lifetime hunting ban across the country. But 27 years is ridiculous, that won’t happen. Obviously we don’t know the why about Lampers, but my guess is he struggled as an “influencer” financially hence wanting the larger sum bounty. There’s no other reason to fudge the wolf kill.

And to your second point influencer wildlife crimes happen way more than we all realize. It’s the same rate, probably higher, than the general hunting public. Hell I know of a big name that was never cited for poaching a buck in the wrong unit because they posted the video and I know the exact spot, this was years ago and F&G had all the info but there was never a citation (long story) so I won’t name the influencer. So, you can imagine how prevalent it really is. We all commit some minor infraction here and there by accident or purpose, but straight poaching in the wrong unit or out of season has to be stiff fines, hunting bans, maybe some jail time depending.

Wonder when Muley freak signs him to the team. Pretty sure guilty pleas are a requirement for admission to their company

It seems like a very high percentage of these influencers who brand themselves as Big critter killers get caught cheating.
Seems much safer to brand yourself a Foody, Wilderness survival expert, Homesteader, ect.. and avoid the pressure of needing to repeatedly produce trophy animals. Or just hunt pay to play stuff and play it off as DIY.

Assumption on my part, but think he probably lied about the wolf bounty out of necessity to keep the lie going.
We were taught as kids once you start a lie it’s hard to get it stopped.
