Any of you joker's out there ice fish in your tipi? How has it worked out? Starting to ice fish with the family and was thinking I could use my 6 man instead of buying a shanty. Figure I could use some ice screws to secure it. What do you guys think?

I’ve heard and seen photos of people doing it. I also heard that doing it with a power drill for the ice screws will make your life much better.

I'd think you'd want a fan, all the heat is going to go up in the peak. Also will you be able to set it up tight to the ice on the bottom? It would work

As long as you don't mind a fishy smell in your tipi it'll work fine, just use ice screws and shovel snow around the bottom for drafts. Just keep the fish hooks and heaters away from the sides.

I have done it with a Kifaru 6 man tipi--it was memorable (and photogenic) to be out on the ice with a fire in the stove, fishing through the "floor," and my kids still talk about it years later but less practical than a pop-up ice shelter because of the work needed to anchor it, even using a power drill/light coming through the material/additional set-up hassle. It was fun but not practical as a regular use.

I have done it but you need to be careful... you need to check the others because we all know this is a fragile fabric and can be puncture easily. Some peoples are pulling the shit out on a ice fishing rod and the tip on the rod hit the tipi's walls.Me alone was awesome,i set-up 2 holes in the tipi and using the stove to cook some moose on it.Most of the time we drill the holes outside and use the tipi for lunch times, the stove is just a must have.

Some pictures from last year with the tigoat tent and the G-stove :

You guys saved me a wrecked or mangled tipi! Wasn't thinking about the 3 little kids with hooks flying all around the inside! Bullet dodged!

That's an awesome setup Reaper. Makes me want to get a tipi and stove for the next ice fishing trip. Great to see a family out enjoying nature.

I’ve thought about this many times! But decided against. The insulted fish huts are hard to beat warmth, even though they weigh 100x
