CO 3rd Rifle Thread

Looks like any route I would take is closed. I won't be getting to Colorado for another 10 days, so things are apt to change between now and then.

Sheriff out here in New Mexico told me that 412 and 87 going out of Clayton will be closed for 24 to 48 hours a little bit ago. That most likely will be the same for Raton pass. Looks like I'll either be back tracking south to tucumcari and driving up through Santa Fe or maybe go up to Lamar and then over.

I'm going to look into other options myself. I'm headed to Monte Vista, so I could come up through Chama if needed. I've driven home that way before.

Made it to my unit. Ugly out there. Be careful! Denver and the eastern plains are getting pounded so 70 from Kansas isn’t an option the next 24-48 hours!

I'm keeping an eye on the roads myself. Raton pass and I25 in general doesn't look too good.

I25 is not good. My wife and I stopped over at the NRA Whittington on our way to Wyoming and looks like we will be stuck here a couple of days.

Good luck you all to those heading out in the mountains. Very heavy snowfall just south of me with expected 18 inches more of snow for Raton/Trinidad/Walsenburg area between now and Saturday morning. Sangre De Cristo mountains are expecting 3-4 feet or more of snow. Sure could've used the snow last month. Lots of trucks pulled off I-25 waiting it out here. Elk will be walking the roads soon!

Headed west right now. Somewhere in mid Kansas constantly hitting update on the road conditions. Might get western here shortly.

Update from just east of Denver. IT SUCKS! We’re from WV, we aren’t afraid snow. But it either iced or got tracked in because the interstate is as rough as a forest service road.

Yeah I woke up to 6 more inches at least in Clayton, NM and it was still coming down pretty good. Just back tracked to I-40 and it's much better down here. I would avoid NE new Mexico and eastern Colorado. Might be Sunday before they dig out.

We got lucky and were able to stay pretty well just ahead of it. I’d hate to have come through an hour after us

I'm leaving late tonight from NW Iowa. Going through Nebraska and through Colorado on I80. I appreciate any road/weather updates.

We took 70. 80 should be ok right now but who knows by the time you’re coming through. You might get lucky and be far enough behind it

Hwy 50 from Kansas is going to be a rough drive once the next round of snow and freezing rain hits. Lamar area and west will be snow for a good bit of the day. Temps are supposed to increase slightly today so it will start melting some but in Pueblo we are expecting another 4-8 inches today starting at 7 am. It's lightly snowing again now.
