Ice fishing…. Anybody got ice?? Pics?

We had great ice 2 weeks ago here in north central IL. It warmed up though and we lost it. The forecast doesn’t look good over the next week or two.

We went out one morning and had a decent bite. My son has gotten pretty good at jigging and reading a flasher.

I like building stuff - so I made this 'Tip Down' for finicky fish.

Works pretty slick, keeps the rod ready to grab and nice to be able to reel up the fish

Been on the ice since Thanksgiving which is about 2 weeks earlier than usual. I don't catch a lot and had hoped to fish places that had more to offer like perch and walleye but it's not in the cards right now. I guess speckled mountain carp (trout) will suffice.

My 79 year old father still goes alone many days and got the 43” laker next to the hut….

Natives at 12k+ Ft in elevation are getting to be my favorite as there are not too many other folks around …. One of the best lakes is about a half mile from my mining claim at 12,300 ft. A big laker is always fun tho!!

Ya thats why i said that. I have been to brainerd and thats not a tournament. Thats just a go find a hole and hope to hell you get lucky to catch a random fish that might swim by. It like buying a lottery ticket no skill involved.

I will bite. These are from the past couple years. I will be attempting to camp on the ice for two nights this weekend in my new Eskimo 650xd with my two kids and border collie. Wish me luck!
