I'm looking for an area that would give me plenty of opportunity. I'm not big on score, but if I had opportunities at deer in the 170 to 180 range I would be extremely happy

I have always wanted to hunt the ruby's during the early archery season, but not sure if the area is worth 6 points

With 6 points and wanting archery I would look at the 194-196 late archery hunt right here in Reno. I don't know the exact draw odds but it is low. You can look it up on the NDOW site. It is one of the few rut hunts in NV and you have the chance at getting a real nice deer. Area 222 late rifle is also a great hunt if there is snow to get the deer moving.

Don't waste your points on a Rubies early hunt...you can get that tag fairly easily. If I had those points I'd be looking at late hunts
agreed and if you'd rather hunt early, just about anything in 6 will give you the kind of opportunity you're looking for. You'll be leaving a few points on the table most likely

Distance doesn't matter. I also have about 6 pts in NV and have been putting in for 23 or 24 any weapon but am thinking I would rather do an early bow hunt. Bow hunting I want to do a high country hunt though. It is too hard to find them in the P&J/cedar if you don't really know the area.

10 is the Ruby's right? I just don't know if its worth burning my pts.

You're correct 10 is Ruby. There are areas to get away from ATV's at 8000' in 21 & 22 not far from Cedar. Also 15 which borders UT I have seen some good bucks taken out during rifle.

There is a monster Ive seen in 23 during a late cow elk Wilderness area I thought he was a small bull at first, go figure I had a cow tag anyway.

I like area 11 to for some high country archery hunts...

How far are wanting to drive?

I'll second this post.... With 6 points as a non-resident you have pretty good odds of drawing, and it's a awesome area. The Schell Creek range is beautiful and holds some nice deer!!! I wouldn't bother with unit 10 seeing as you've already got 6 points accrued.
Also for archery, I wouldn't rule out 171-173. It gets a lot of pressure during rifle season but you'd be in and out before that commotion started.

yup! 17 is good as well.. cased some 180 class bucks in there last year helping a buddy. also 16 if u want the remote wilderness stuff and I seen 3 deer in there that will go over 190" when I was helping my buddy during his muzzleloader bull hunt.

Also if u really wana hunt and want it guided I know some areas close to vegas that I can show u some big muleys.. Just saying! lol.. I have been watching the one for 3 years now and I wana kill him just cant ever draw the tag.. he is a WIDE non typical in the high 180s as of 2 weeks ago...

The truth of it is, you can see deer that size in any area of the state. I've seen monsters in 7, 6, 2, 3, 4, 14, 1, 11, 17, 16, 21, 23, 19, 15, 13. I think the best thing to do is take a look at the success and draw odds at the NDOW website and hone in from there. Coming in from Wyoming though, you can't go wrong with 6 or 7.
