If there’s a grizzly in 144 I’ll eat my underwear! I know I know… someone’s uncle’s brother’s mailman saw one down near Commissary Ridge. Blah blah blah. I don’t think there’s a single grizzly in region G. I’ve hunted it from the north border to the south for elk. Never a single track or terd. Guys I know who guide there say the same thing.

Wish this kid the best, and an awesome hunt with his dad! Good word from the few guys that helped him out.

Love seeing all the negative comments as all the truck hunters squirm watching someone else have success. As a Montana Resident it’s good to get confirmation there are a lot of guys out their still sitting on roads wondering where the big animals have gone. 😂

.
It was a joke or did you miss all the laughing emoj? ,😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I've had plenty of success here in Montana and not from the seat of a truck lighten up life's to short

My only thing about treating this as a "scouting trip cause I got lucky" is that it could be 10+ years before I ever draw a more then half decent tag again. Like I want to try to kill something bigger then my one and only buck (but don't think that'll be too hard). And also I just gotta say Glockster26, I am WELL AWARE that the Wyoming fish and game has a website, considering thats how I put in for the tag.

Good luck, don't get discouraged. You'll do just fine. The worst thing you could possibly do is turn in the tag, especially since you drew it with zero points.

If you do go at this solo get yourself a Zoleo or the like, seriously.
Things can go South quickly and a communicator can save your life. Young doesn't mean invincible.
First and foremost: Enjoy the experience. A filled tag is a party bonus!

Is it possible to draw g with zero points?
Not into the points scam /creep thing
So I'm generally curious as we only hunt general tags/or states with otc deer & or elk other then Colorado and we get land owner vouchers for our deer hunt there and do otc for elk
Never done the pp game so I truly don't know how it works

Like I said… someone saw a bear. A bear. One. It was lost. Region G is NOT grizzly country. I don’t even consider elk area 85 north of the snake to be grizzly country. Telling a young hunter trying to plan a hunt in G to beware of grizzlies is not necessary.
There was a grizzly 2 weekends ago right in the heart of the greys/little greys next to campsites on game camera on a bait. No question which species it was. They have been seen in cliff creek plenty. Most sightings don't make the actual news outside of the local circle for a reason. Not saying id plan for Grizzlies, but as the years go by, and they get pushed out of country from the north due to over population, they will push south to where there are lots of elk, it's only a matter of time before seeing them is more and more common down here.

You can pay the dude from Utah to scout G for you he does this for quite a few folks each year.

Or follow the 20 night rule.. Make the sacrifice, spend 20 nights scouting in G, and earn your buck.

I elk hunted region G last year, I’ve never deer hunted it although I would love too.

We saw a great buck at middle elevation that was a mile hike deep October 1. We also went up into the classic region G higher basins and didn’t see anything but does.

The classic reason to hunt G is big alpine bucks September 15th. It’s a mule deer lovers kind of hunt and I think a lot of people might dislike it. There are a lot of other places deer hang out in that unit year round that are a lot more accessible if necessary. Some of the stuff on the Idaho border is a giant sage brush sea and there are definitely bucks over there year round.

I’d scout this summer and pack in for a high alpine hunt on the opener. If that doesn’t work out I would go back and hunt mid elevation in October and treat it like any other deer hunt.

You should treat this hunt as a learning opportunity. I had a similar tag draw early in my western hunting to pull AZ elk on 1 PP. I made a huge mess of the actual hunt but I learned so much in a condensed period of time. If you view it as a learning opportunity and not a there is a 200” buck behind every tree type hunt you will get more from it.

I invested more than half your lifetime to draw this tag. With the said don't forget it's a general deer tag and residents hunt it yearly. In fact the early opening day draws residents from a far and puts plenty of pressure in the field.

I'm heading over to do some fishing and look at deer next weekend I'll let you know.

Getting an inreach might help your parents being more ok woth you being solo. That worked for me the forst solo trip i did for my parents and girlfriend.
Also if your able to scout and put effort forward im sire theres another rokslider in your boat you can team up with maybe. You see those post from time to time. Good luck and go hunt
