Hello, I’m very motivated to learn all I can about caribou hunting for this Fall. I’m using my OnX Hunt app, reg books, detailed maps, etc. I’ve already secured a transporter. If anyone cares to just offer up a few suggestions, we’d be very grateful. I don’t want to break any rules and can DM the draw I got, etc. Thank you all so much for sharing your experience with FNG Huntress.

Caribou are interesting creatures in that they are almost unpatternable. They just kind of roam about in a generalized direction but that doesn’t mean they won’t zig zag every which way to get there.

They are particularly curious animals and will give you an awful lot of time for them to decide whether your a threat or not. And even when they do, they typically will run off but give you one more chance for a few seconds.

The last thing is, when they are roaming/feeding. You will not catch them. They appear to be moving slow but they are not lol. The speed at which they stroll across the tundra is impressive to say the least. And if you haven’t been in the tussocks yet, you’ll learn why when you do.

Thank you. I’ve been told they can be there and then disappear. I’m working out with a personal trainer since I have a brown bear hunt coming up in May. So the stairstepper has become my new best friend. Lol
