Hunting campers

edit: meant to quote you @sndmn11

I have a FWC Grandby shell that I built out posted on page one. I've built out two of them with diesel heaters, solar, etc.

My brother has a Go Fast Camper on a Raptor and has similar wants to yours. My opinion on your question is that it's kind of difficult with regard to having the diesel fuel for the heater in the truck bed and the fumes. That's no joke. Carefully think through where you would store it at.

One method people do is put the heater in a harbor freight pelican case knock off and set it outside and use ducting to duct the heat in. The hassle of that is that it's another step in set up/tear down and isn't incorporated to "the house".

As for solar, where are you going to mount the lithium battery and controllers? That isn't as hard if you can fabricate, but it's another task. Are they going on the truck bed floor and going to be plugged/unplugged from the camper shell to remove seperately when the camper is removed, or are they going to be mounted inside the shell somehow so it's one unit?
I assumed all diesel heaters would be left outside. That would be my plan at least.

A few of the companies I have been looking at seem to have battery and controller solutions that work in the campers. Some even appear to be modular enough you could mix match brands.

Does your setup charge off the alternator when driving too?
I have the ability, but never hooked it up because the solar is so effective. I think in a post above I explained power consumption and generation of my setup.

I really like the design of the GFC, but that has been my biggest hangup. I almost always have Jerry cans in the bed of my pickup.

I had a Braxton Creek teardrop camper that I liked a lot, but I'm thinking about trying to save some money this time and buy a cargo trailer to finish out.
See my answer below in this post.

I think for a GFC type camper you could perhaps mount it inside in a enclosure similar to RV propane storage compartments. That could use a small internal fuel tank, or as much as I hate rotopax, mounting a rotopax on the exterior wall it could work. Again, it's complicated in those platforms though

The above is similar to how I did my first FWC. I deleted the propane system and put the heater and small tank in there. Carried a fuel can on a tire rack.

On my current rig I put a custom aluminum bed on with side lock boxes. Since I don't have wheel wells, I tucked it in the recess where the wheel well would be. The fuel line goes through a small grommet into the lockbox and is in a 5 gallon Jerry Can.

Yeah, I have a 10' x 14' Kodiak deluxe model that I used on a moose hunt in Montana with great results. It held up very well and kept me warm and dry for 2 weeks during very inclement weather with lots of snow.
I have a friend that doesn't need this tent anymore. It retails for $1500. She wants to sell it, it's been used a couple of times. Wondering what I should price it at? If you know anyone interested let me know.

Does your setup charge off the alternator when driving too?
No, since I changed from 120Watts on the roof to 400W it's never needed anything else. Lithium iron phosphate batteries charge at a a higher amperage so unless you have a very powerful alternator it's not going to be very useful for helping charge the camper while driving.
