Hunting Burns, By Jim Carr

You do find them elsewhere and honestly around here everything is so thick might just be that they are easier to spot on the fringe or out in the burn.
Definitely agree with this in the thick north country where you practically have to step on them to see them the burns or clearcuts give a whole new element to hunting this type country. The burns in this country also become magnets with the smorgasbord of goodies that just were not available under the dense canopy.

Walked around in an area where the Pioneer fire from 2016 in Idaho burned and could see the varying intensities of how the fire was acting. What’s still shocking to me is still how “thick” everything was with the remaining standing timber, I always figured it would be easier to see game, and maybe it is but not to the extent I figured it would be.

Jim Carr knows that hunting burns can be a great strategy for finding game. In this article he explains some of the reasons they can be so good.

Hunting Burns
Great article. Definitely had given me some food for thought.
