My cst turbo has a ship date of the 28th, need to start flinging a lot of arrows for my AZ elk hunt in sept! I think Shane described great what I felt in the bow. I am currently have a Destroyer 340. As I shot the different bows I just kept coming back to the cst turbo

Hey Shane,

The Turbo won't fit me, but have you shot the regular 34 Nitrum or 34LD? Just wondering what the differences are between the turbo and the regular as far as feel and performance. Obviously the specs are different. I'm looking at picking up the 34LD to play around with. Thanks for any insight you may have.

Man, what its like to have a long draw

I have shot and tuned both bro, what draw length are you ?

I see why the 34 LD, draw cycle is very nice. What info are you curious about ?

I've talked to a couple guys that had the regular Nitrum and then quickly sold them to get the Turbo. Just wondering if there are any other differences besides more speed. Obviously at my draw length speed isn't an issue, so was just wondering if the regular Nitrum was "special" too.......or just the Turbo.;) The LD model comes with different limbs so obviously could shoot differently than the others.

There really aren't any "speed bows" available to the long draw archer. Most all the long draw bows (32+) have their own speed ratings which are based on the max draw length of that particular bow. So if I subtract 20fps to get it down to a more familiar comparative IBO rating, the 34LD is really a 320 IBO bow. Much like my PSE Freak which had a speed rating of 353, but that is at 33" draw. Subtract 30fps to get to a 30" bow and IBO is only 323.

So while many new bows have come out in recent years to help the shorter draw guys equal the playing field as far as speed goes, for the long draw guys my 2006 316 IBO bow is still very comparable to the fastest speed bows available today for us knuckle-draggers. Not much has changed for us in the speed game. And as a knuckle dragger that had a huge advantage over short draw guys........well, we just can't have the playing field equaled.;) LOL.

So beyond speed, it all comes down to fit, draw cycle, feel, forgiveness, and tunability. I don't foresee ANY issues for tuning with a yoke bow. How much valley does the bow have, and is that adjustable at all? I prefer a longer valley for hunting and a shorter valley for everything else.

Agreed, LOL !

I believe the 34 LD was coming in right around 325 range so it will be very close to your PSE Freak.

In my opinion it has ample valley, nothing like a 2 track bow where you might only be holding 10#. Guys will say holding weight and valley are completely different, I feel they go hand and hand. The lower the holding weight, the bigger the valley, it's that simple. With the 34LD you will probably be in the neighborhood of 78-80% let-off, no more than that. Yes, the valley can be adjusted some but IMO you will sacrifice clean vertical nock travel by going one way or another. Clean vertical nock travel will dictate what holding weight you end up with. Changing your d loop position up and down can play a roll in your valley, sounds odd maybe to some, but very true.

With a Hybrid cam you will have the most let-off / biggest valley when the cams hit at the same time. For this to happen the general starting postion for your nocking point will be center of berger hole, nock level. Now, if you want to ease the transition on the backend just before you hit the wall and a firmer wall, with slightly more holding weight you would raise your nocking point. The higher you run in the berger hole while maintaining nock level, the more ability you have to let your top cam hit first.

Draw cycle, grip and feel will all be great. Not many down sides to the new series IMO

Thanks. If I stick to my plan and like the 34LD, I'll keep it for hunting and make the freak a dedicated 3D bow. And end up completely away from the binaries that I've shot for the past several years.

Would you go turbo over a 34?

What draw length ?

I shot each of them quite a bit and went with the turbo. The back wall is alot harder and I prefer the slightly lower letoff. Heck if I could get the turbo cams at 65-68% that would be the cats meow. I might play with some spirals on the carbon element im getting.
My draw length on a Hoyt is 30.5 inches. They generally run about 0.25" long in my experience. Im confident that with a little string manipulation and taking the grip off it will fit.

Shane have you put or seen any turbo cams on a 34 riser?

You can easily achieve a true 30.5" measured draw with taking off the grip and twisting up the cables slightly

I have not had the chance to do any conversions from a 34 to the new Turbo cams

I have a 27inch draw.

I would really consider the Turbo at your draw length. You would have gains in KE, speed, firmer backwall and a very consistent pull through the shot. Now going to the Turbo you would gain a little holding weight, still have ample valley IMO but not as much as the 34, the 34 will be a little smoother transition on the back end at first. After you get adjusted to the draw force curve with muscle memory, I bet you would never miss the 34. I have owned the 30 and 34 this year and prefer the Turbo

Everybody is different but these are just my thoughts
