Howa Mini Rifles, Builds, and Upgrades

They're metric so choose someone that knows that and can thread metric. FWIW the Mini's are M22 x 1 Right in between 24 and 26 TPI.
I was cutting metric threads in high school machine shop 30+ years ago. Not hard to do if you have a lathe that can do it. Most lathes manufactured in the last 40 years have the ability to cut metric threads. If a gunsmith refuses to work on Howa Actions and a few other that use metric shank threads, usually it is because their equipment doesn't have the capabilities to do so.

Never said cutting metric was hard. It was only a note and a suggestion to ask before you leap. There’s a lot of old but good lathe’s out there in good gunsmiths shops that don’t cut metric or the transposing gears were lost to the wind long ago.

I could use some help picking ring height.

I have a mini barreled action in 223 inbound from Brownells. I already have a set of 1" Talley lows on the way, but I'm considering picking up one of the Vortex Viper in 2.5-10x44. These are 30mm tube so I'll need to swap out for different rings. Does anyone know if the Medium Talley's will clear that? I'd like to keep the scope as low as possible.

Thanks!

Mediums will work

From the early days of my Mini, that's a 42mm objective in 30mm Medium rings.
Heaps of clearance

Thank you! That's extremely helpful and saves me scouring all 46 pages of this thread! That's should be an almost identical form factor to the Viper; doesn't look entirely unwieldy either. Almost makes me wonder if I could get by with lows...

There is such a dearth of trim lightweight scopes on the market anymore. I'm debating between another of the Sightron s1's (in 3-9x40) and that Viper 2.5-10, but $250 price on the Viper is very appealing especially since I'm hoping to do a bit more longer range practice with the 223. I'm certainly open to other sub $300 (but preferably closer to $200) suggestions.

Decisions, decisions...

I think Mediums are the happy spot, if you look at the eyepiece that's the spot lacking clearance.

Have you considered the latest Burris Fullfields?
Ive always liked them and they have a 2.5-10x42 and 3-12x42 that are around that price point
