How to deal with a mosquito bite allergy.

I too suffer from mosquito bites with large itching welts (sp?). I got a prescription from my Doctor for 2.5% Hydrocortisone cream. The generic is only $7 for a large tube that seems to last forever. The sooner you put it on the bite, the quicker it relieves the itch, and the welts seem to subside. Could be worth a try.

I have an insect allergy to bites, mainly ticks and chiggers. My scars last months. Supposedly i am allergic to the chemical the mites inject. Ayways, i went through an allergy doc (ligit md, no snake oils) he recommended i get an anti allergen injection. Said it would be roughly 8-10 shots over a period of 2 months to basically make me not allergic, and have more of a typical bit reaction. That said, the doctor was about 40 min away, and ticks were about done and i did not follow through, and insurance coverage was questionable. May be able to take similar route with her situation.

Has she tried any of the post bite treatments like Sting Eze (sp?) or the patches? They work great for me.
She's pretty crunchy and holistic. Doesn't like putting anything on her skin but I will have her look into these. Certain things are harmless and she will try. Ultimately it's up to her.

The welts and itching is your bodies reaction to a protein the mosquito injects to prevent your blood from clotting so they can drink more. Nasty little devils! That protein breaks down at high heat. Whenever I get attacked I will run the bites under uncomfortably hot water for as long as I can stand it. Instant relief and no welts.

They make little ceramic burner devices that do the same thing. Now… it has to be hot enough to hurt to break the protein down, but it’s worth it to me. You mention your wife hates creams and stuff, this is her best option and works better than the creams in my opinion. I have used this one with decent results. https://a.co/d/cr59FkW Can pocket it and apply it immediately after bites. I’m sure they probably make better ones. I think the hot water method works best for me. But I keep my water heater at 145F… so it’s pretty hot.

I also use a Thermocell, it works great. On a September bear hunt with my dad in Northern Wisconsin a few years ago, had we not had it under our seats in our stand, we'd have been carried away.

This was the article I was looking for earlier but couldn't find:

Great article....thanks @Dos Perros

A Baby...yeah, then keep the permethrin on your calfs. The Picaridin works and its natural as far as I know. Thermacell works too.

Otherwise- chemical free is tough, I'm thinking she could wear enough layers that they would have a hard time poking through...but thats going to be hot in the summer.

Don't have the reaction your wife does but mosquitos flock to me versus my wife. There are areas of my yard that I can't be in without a thermacell during certain parts of the day.

Also, I get bit through my clothing frequently. If that's an issue and she doesn't want to use chemicals mentioned here, there fine knit/woven options that mosquitos can't bite through.

My 15yr old son and 2yr old daughter have this problem. Mosquito bites turn into raised, red, hard, itchy bumps. Our mosquitoes aren't as bad as usual this year. But the ones we do have are like hummingbirds and come in beak first like a torpedo. They are HUGE.

Never touch a bite let it itch. Build Bird houses & bat houses. Might be spending lots to get a bobcat in with an auger to put poles up to hang bird houses 100-200 houses also add bat houses.
Elevated deck can really help. As kids we used to climb trees to get away from skeeters and you didn’t need to get way up there.
I did get bit by to many deer flies mowing and had a slight allergic reaction this summer and I never itched them. Went to heavy denim long sleeve shirt & head net & wore leather gloves.

Sounds like a good plan for our forever house. This one we are just renting.

My daughter is the same way.
She gets a bite and it swells up and welted and filled with puss.
I dont have the issue neither does my son or her mother.
We really havent figured out much to get hers to go away once she gets bit to keep these things under control.
Really sucks cause she likes being outside but hates dealing with the bites all the time.
Ill try some of the things mentioned here.

Since we moved to WY my wife and some of my kids are deathly allergic to mosquitos. Not like anaphalaxic type reactions, but the bit site becomes enormous, enflamed, painful and turns into a scab.

Where we lived previously the wind was so consistent that it wasn't really an issue. Now we have moved onto a big farm with irrigation and tons of vegetation and life has been hell for my wife. She doesnt even go outside except to run to the truck to go somehwhere.

So we havent been camping or doing much outside as a family. My wife has to wear long sleeves in public as she looks like a drug addict with pot marks all over her arms.

Some of the natural type of bug sprays are used if we have to be outside for an event or party, but she is breastfeeding a new born and won't slather herself in insecticides and I we dont see that as the best long term solution anyway.

Anyone had to deal with this? Any pro tips or secrets to keeping mosquitos off of you? They flock to her in a crazy way, like she sprints to the chicken coop to close the door for the night and will wind up with 2 fresh bites, while im outside watering and feeding horses for 45 minutes and get nothing.

Any help is appreicted.

If you use picaridin combined with permethrin you’ll basically be insect proof.
