How to deal with a mosquito bite allergy.

I too suffer from mosquito bites with large itching welts (sp?). I got a prescription from my Doctor for 2.5% Hydrocortisone cream. The generic is only $7 for a large tube that seems to last forever. The sooner you put it on the bite, the quicker it relieves the itch, and the welts seem to subside. Could be worth a try.

Has she tried any of the post bite treatments like Sting Eze (sp?) or the patches? They work great for me.

I have an insect allergy to bites, mainly ticks and chiggers. My scars last months. Supposedly i am allergic to the chemical the mites inject. Ayways, i went through an allergy doc (ligit md, no snake oils) he recommended i get an anti allergen injection. Said it would be roughly 8-10 shots over a period of 2 months to basically make me not allergic, and have more of a typical bit reaction. That said, the doctor was about 40 min away, and ticks were about done and i did not follow through, and insurance coverage was questionable. May be able to take similar route with her situation.

She's pretty crunchy and holistic. Doesn't like putting anything on her skin but I will have her look into these. Certain things are harmless and she will try. Ultimately it's up to her.

The welts and itching is your bodies reaction to a protein the mosquito injects to prevent your blood from clotting so they can drink more. Nasty little devils! That protein breaks down at high heat. Whenever I get attacked I will run the bites under uncomfortably hot water for as long as I can stand it. Instant relief and no welts.

They make little ceramic burner devices that do the same thing. Now… it has to be hot enough to hurt to break the protein down, but it’s worth it to me. You mention your wife hates creams and stuff, this is her best option and works better than the creams in my opinion. I think the hot water method works best for me. But I keep my water heater at 145F… so it’s pretty hot.
