This whitetail walked by my Tactacam this evening.
It obviously heard the camera.

How noisy are they?

Also, is this a buck (shed it’s antlers) or a doe ?

All mine are still afield, so can't say for sure. My non-cell Cuddebacks were quite loud to the point that I took one apart to see if I could silence them and the tolerances for the IR filter arm were so small there didn't seem to be an easy fix. If you turn on the Tactacam "check-in picture" (takes a pic every 12 hours), this may help force the IR filter to click without critters around. It seems to me that the no-glow IR cams draw less attention than the low-glow IRs, which can also be part of the alerted animals.

This guy explains it pretty well and is likely the source of your "noise". Listen to it until about 4:00 mark.

I’ve never noticed a sound walking around it and it taking pictures with just my nose in frame. It may be the light turning on and not the noise.

After I listened to the above vid again, and if you listen really close to the video I posted, there are a couple squeaks

I requested another video and that one also squeaked

It's a very quiet click. Only in a 'quiet enough to hear a pin drop situation' could they hear it, and only if they were very close.

I've done a couple things to almost eliminate them looking at the camera, minimize the IR glow to the lowest setting or off, throw a pile of branches in front of the camera so they can't get too close to it, use a photo delay instead of 'burst' photos.

The biggest improvement is probably from the reduced IR or flash power. Only the long distance night shots will be too dark to see, the trade off is not altering their behavior.

Looks like a buck. We only have white-tailed deer here and some have shed and some still have antlers.

My cameras are inaudible.

I have one set on a coyote trap right now and I've been right next to it in total silence and can't hear it.
