Tactacam Reveal X Gen 2.0 spooking deer and other problems.

Had multiple bucks stop and stare at the cameras; some even turning away. They’re definitely getting spooked. There is a delay between the picture and when a video starts. I’ll get a picture of the animal and often times the video completely misses the animal or the animal is just about out of frame. Also, HD photos at night are just about as bad as a regular picture. Spooking the deer is my main issue. Two nice bucks staring at the camera and turning away have never passed the camera since. First cell cams and not sure how I feel about them. I have some regular stealth cams that take just as good if not better photos/videos and I don’t see the deer locking up to stare at them. Thoughts?

I have 4 gen 2.0 and 2 gen 3.0 running year round. I cannot remember 1 single deer looking at my cameras. One of the things that sold me on the tactacam brand. Where are you mounting your cameras? I've adopted the Sturgis method of head height or higher you loose a little field of view but keeps them out of the deers line of sight. Are your cameras up or down wind of the deer trails? It could be a scent issue where you put it up. I have had deer sniffing around the base of the tree where the camera is after I've changed batteries or something. On another note if you leave cameras in one place for a long time use energizer lithium batteries in the tactacams they last forever. I've switched totally to them and I have not changed a battery since before Oct 24 and almost all cameras still read 100% battery.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll try mounting them higher when I move them in the next few weeks. They’re higher than what I normally set one but I’ll try it out. Might go high and angle them down a bit. They’ve been sitting for months, they’re on a solar charger so I never have to physically check them. I doubt my scent is a problem by now.

I have 6 of the Tactacams and switched to all no-glow flash. I was getting spooked bucks from the red flash also. But even with all my cameras no glow flash, I do catch certain bucks only once on a trail camera in a season still. Especially during the rut.

I have a couple gen 2 reveal x tactacams that Ive had out for about a year. I also think they are spooking animals more than my other cameras have. I’ve caught numerous deer that on video were visibly startled (head jerked up, stopped in their tracks, etc), both daytime and at night. Also several coyotes that stopped and sprinted away, on video clearly startled by the camera. This is a mix of locations, but including very high (I bring a climbing stick so I can get them well over 10’ high and angled down). I looked into it a month or three ago and found a lot of people saying the same thing. Also same on trigger time—TONS of photos and videos that failed to trigger on time and only caught critter as it left the frame.

I have relegated my 2 tactacams to driveway sentry at the family camp and will be replacing them w something different.

Glad im not the only one. I’ve had coyotes, fox, bobcats, and countless deer do exactly what you’re saying. Do not like the horrible delay in the video which makes me wonder what I’m missing. Not what I want in a camera. I tried their customer service and was told they’d schedule a time to contact me. I received an email the next day saying something along the lines that my problem is resolved since we didn’t discuss the matter. I’m buying something else as well. Not sure yet. But for the price I’m laying it won’t be reveal again. Might give Wiseeyes a shot.
