How Much PTO Do You Have?

I get that some jobs just give more time off but wow! What is everyone doing that gives so much?
Federal Government.
8 hours paid leave and 4 sick for the first 3 years of service
12 hours paid leave an 4 sick for the 3-15 years of service.
16 hours paid leave and 4 sick for the 15 plus years of service.
 
Veterinarian here. Base salary but production/commission based.

I get 10 days off. They are unpaid days. I get 3 sick days. At $300 a pop.

I’m scheduled to work 30-45 hours per week depending on my weekend rotation. Work every other Saturday and every 6th Sunday. Have to cover treatments 1-2 holidays per year.

Be nice to your Veterinarian.

Look at the positives you don’t have to pay human malpractice insurance.

My vets dug me out of a few holes on stuck calves. Lucky to have him.
 
Federal government employee, I earn 208 a year with a max carryover of 240. Also, I get 104 hours of sick leave a year with no carryover limit. If we time it right, we can retire at the end of a year with the 240 carryover and the 208 accrued and get paid 100% for it. Any sick leave left at the end of our career is paid $.40 on the dollar. They’ll pay me 100% for mine!

I’m included in a soon to be suit for a random drug reaction that turned into a perforated stomach. Dog got neutered, received an appropriate dose of Rimadyl for post op pain and inflammation, ended up with stomach perforation. I diagnosed via barium. Board certified surgeon said I shouldn’t have given barium….. wouldn’t have diagnosed otherwise.


So yeah I do carry malpractice insurance. Even though this wasn’t malpractice.

Never enough that’s for sure, and I can’t keep it to build it up, I got life to live outside of work 🤣
 
What’s up with the no/low PTO badge of honor? Good life has a balance of all (maybe heavy PTO).
 
24 days a year. Right now I have 17 days. I never let it get below 10.

10hrs a month vacation
8 a month sick/family care
40 hrs a year personal time for working overtime on occasion. Plenty for me to hunt and have family trips.
Every other Friday off working 9’s plus 1 8.

Cherry on top, I work for a city that opted out of social security when they incorporated! If you could see your balance instead of what you can expect to get monthly when you hit 67 or whatever, it will blow your mind!

Damn, sorry man. Between horses, cattle and dogs I’m sure glad for vets.

When I call a vet I already know i batting from behind. Can’t expect miracles. You sound like a good one. Keep your head up

Ya I’m up over 800 hours and still have 17 years till I can retire at 50. My last year or two im only working 2-3 days a week haha. Guy don’t wanna work the blocks and bang in as soon as they get 8 hours, it’s terrible.
 
I agree with a few other posters. PTO is a power take off. Nothing to do with leave.
Regardless, I work a 14/14 roster in the patch. I accrue 5 weeks annual leave per year and 10 sick days per year. I’m sitting on triple digit sick and annual leave days. With six months off a year already I don’t feel the urge to burn many days, usually I pull them as cash but I keep enough banked to have a cushion.
 
Little over 9 weeks PTO +88 holiday hours +the option to purchase another 40hrs PTO (usually do this just has a nice little bonus check at the end of the year when they buy it back)

I will get another 40hrs next spring.

However, I can also work 4 10s if I want and take a day a week off without using any PTO.
 
I work for a state wildlife agency - but it is pretty much the same for all other agencies in my state.
Currently get 13 days of sick and 13 days of PTO per year (plus holidays), but I am about to get 16 days of PTO per year with 5 years in.
I can build up to 360 PTO with anything over rolling into sick. If I leave, I get paid out for 240. I build comp so I try not to touch PTO. 10+ years of service will pay out 25% of vacation up to 480 hours paid.
 
I never really understood the concept of "paid" time off. "So you're saying that you want to pay me.........while I'm not even here working"? What a concept. I never gave it much credence beyond an incredible gift from the company, because I was more than willing to take time off without pay as needed.
I've never worked somewhere that had it until this year.
I actually thought that the paid time off was the only time they found acceptable for me to be gone. Then realized I can borrow, and take unpaid leave.

The unpaid leave used to be quit job to have Fall open. 😂
 
Own small (wife & I) home service business in Alaska. I pay myself to take 7 months off a year . 6 in the winter and 1 for sheep season.
