Tax CPA here. Dad and I have a small practice together. We work our asses off February - April, late August - mid September, and first half of October. We take time off as much as we really need outside of those dates.

Federal employee here currently.

Have 129 hours of annual
7 hours of credit
4 newly acquired hours from the USDA secretary
284 hours of sick leave
I’ll have 20 days to use or lose by Sept 1 at the rate I’m going for taking time off now. Sure hope I draw some decent tags.

Sure hope I can take all that time off this year 😂

Wisconsin dnr employee... Right now I get about 5 weeks vacation, 36 hours personal holiday, and earn another 2 weeks comp time. I get most holidays off and my sick leave balance is about 1600 hours and growing. Another 2 years and I get another 1 week of vacation. On top of that I work 10's... 3 day weekends for over 20 years.

Been with my company 35 years so I get 5 1/2 weeks of vacation, and everybody gets 40 hours of PTO. 7 paid holidays.
Can carry over 80 hours of vacation and 40 hours of PTO every year.

I haven't taken a single day of PTO in 18 years. Vacation and sick days combine to give me 0 days in the bank.

Self employment is the best thing ever.

I earn -
1 day a month
I get 7 8 hour holidays
I buy 40hours.

Works out to be 17 days off-

So just a month and a quarter,

I schedule myself 3 on 6 off 3 on or 6 on 8 off depending where I am at that schedule

Federal employee here that just met my third anniversary. I accrue 6hrs of annual leave and 4 hours of sick leave per period. 240hrs is the line for use or lose. I’m projected at 320hrs at the end of this year so I’ll have roughly 10 days of leave.l to burn. No cap on sick leave.

My company has an unlimited PTO policy. PTO must be approved by manager and any single leave over 14 days is approved by the Management Team. To date, nobody has been denied a PTO request. Get your work done and take off the time you need. The company changed to this policy during Covid since employees were concerned about having the time needed if they or a family member needed extended care or quarantine. Now employees don’t need to be concerned about accrued time off since it is unlimited.

You gotta figure out how to effectively manage your business if this is true. You might be the only guy in the country that owns his own business and havnt missed a day of work in 18 years.

I didn't say I worked every day.

I take 9-10 weeks off a year. Plus at least an afternoon a week.

None of it is paid.

Save all that sick leave for the retirement payout.

I'm a Fed with 13 years in, sitting on about 4 weeks of use or lose. Two more years til it bumps up to 8 hours per pay period. But even now, I get so much travel comp time that I'll never use all my leave. Probably going to donate a few weeks if anyone is in the leave donor program.

1 man show I suppose.
Yep. Zero interest in "help"... I provide a pretty specialized service, which allows me to work significantly less than the average person, while still making significantly over average income for the area.

But it would be easy make a lot more, because none of my time off is paid. It's time I could making more money.
