For those who have over 3 hunting packs, who uses them all with any regularity?
I have different bags for my main pack that I change seasonally, but if I had 3 different hunting packs that I used depending on the day, I would constantly lose things, or not have things I need because I forgot to move them from one to another.
Just packs in general, I have several, but that’s mainly because of good deals thinking something might work for some application, then I try it and decide it’s not what I hoped
I don’t have an EDC pack, never have, I have pockets and a wallet, and that works fine for my edc needs. When I’m on the ocean working, I bring a soft cooler for food and extra clothes or gear I throw on the bunk or whatever
If I’m going to be on the boat for days, I’ll have some sort of pack or duffel, but I have plenty of options by default
If I’m truck camping, I have a big waterproof simms duffel that I could climb in, but I don’t really count that as a pack
The packs I use with any regularity can be narrowed to 2, grundens bootlegger (30L waterproof roll top simple bag with shoulder straps only) for steelhead fishing, and my K4 with a couple bags for hunting… besides those, I don’t see using more.
It took a lot of packs to finally land on K4, but now that it exists, I have no use for more, I just won’t use them. My popup I keep because it isn’t worth much used, and I think I will eventually start using it again for something (maybe turkey hunting?) but I know I can’t replace it so I keep it.
I have used the pop up for steelhead fishing a bit, but that’s not where it shines, so I’m back to a more basic pack for that, and it works fine and cheap enough to not care if it gets fish slime, bait and blood on it, and it keeps my gear dry and can fit a rain jacket, and/or insulation layer if needed.
I’m just curious how people utilize a bunch of packs, and not lose or forget stuff when frequently switching packs. The last time I was getting any use out of my old exo was working out of town and I used it as my travel bag, but it was wasted potential so I gave it away
I was going to keep my kifaru duplex with the few bags I had for it, but once I got the k4, I knew I would never use the kifaru again… it was a great pack system, but I like the k4 more in every regard, so it didn’t make sense
I was really considering getting another k4 frame to use as a dedicated hauler, and was going to be a 26.5” frame, but to keep things simple, I’m just going to get the longer stays, and put them on my frame after archery elk… my reason for not getting a second frame is because I would have to leave it in my pickup, then if I switch to it, I would need to move my essentials from my hunting pack to the hauler, and then leave my hunting pack in my pickup… I would constantly be worried about someone busting a window out and taking it, I’m often parked in areas nobody is around, and theft is a thing to consider, so I have scrapped that idea, because I know I wouldn’t utilize it… I like simple and efficient too, and there is nothing more simple and efficient than using the pack on your back as your dedicated hauler
