How many animals do you hunt in a year?

I shoot (or at least try to shoot) every year
moose
one or two black bears
coyotes
spruce grouse
ducks

all unguided, on local public land

How do you hunt allogators? Do you eat them?
We Primarily glass up a big one in the daylight or spotlight at night and then slowly approach until in range with a heavy duty fishing rod and large weighted treble hook. We sling that across their back and hang on. It’s usually a fair fight until we can get a bang stick in the back of the skull.

2025 was a fun year.

Mule deer
White tail deer
Bear
Elk
Antelope
Grouse
Hungarian partridge
Racoon
Coyote
Gophers; lots of them
Snowshoe hare
Cottontail

That’s a good amount of meat, enough for all
The pack ahah

Best year was 27 for me (16 roes including 7 males, the rest were wild boars and one fallow deer) then i was single and things became a bit more complicated XD

I have 4 daughters, we eat probably 8-10lbs a week of game meat.

I kill elk as I find them. Sex relates to tag limits. Deer depend on how far from the truck. They have been kind of scarce lately. Coyotes are as encountered.

Early is grouse and late is geese but they fit under public service.

For this coming year:

OK Ducks
OK Spring turkey (maybe)
ID Archery elk
OK Whitetail deer (hopefully a buck and maybe a couple does)
MT Mule deer

Good chance it is my best season yet

For lions, Most people use dogs, chase and tree the cat, then shoot it. Very seldom see one just walking around, as they tend to be somewhat nocturnal and shy. Never done it myself, or any other guided hunt.

Every US state has different hunting regs and tag quotas. I live in Nevada, where all big game species tags are given out through a lottery. Bull elk tags are very tight. If you kill one you can’t even apply again for seven years. I usually put in for mule deer, cow elk, spike elk, and antelope. There’s a lot of competition and a points system. I haven’t drawn any kind of big game tag the two previous seasons. (See my avatar 😀😀).

My son and brother both put in for similar tags every year so if anyone draws one we all go. We usually do a wilderness drop camp, where an outfitter drops our camping gear and supplies (all of which we provide) at a pre arranged location, and we hunt from our base camp for a week or two, then he comes and gets us. It’s a big adventure for us and a real family bonding ritual.
with so few tags is there a problem with poaching?

damn.. i have seen some gator hunts when hunters were just shooting them in the head, why it wouldn't work in your case?

AR-15 in .223/5.56. Or .243 for super long range in the prairies. I shot one with a .308 one time in Missouri at close range during deer season and I would not suggest that for coyotes.
why not 308? i can see the benfits of a smaller caliber of course but why specifically you wouldn't suggest 30 cal pills for them?

So i am curious about how many animals you kill each year and of which species on public land. I speak of public land because i assume most private land hunt are a joke like here in Italy, where basically the owner points you the deer and almost squeeze the trigger for you 😂
There are high fenced, managed operations in the US. But in relative terms not that many. Otherwise hunting private land is much like hunting public land other than you don't deal with all the other hunters. However if you really want to get into the backcountry that is all public land with rare exception.

It’s not legal in Florida for recreational use on public land. I believe private and commercial use may have that ability.
