Water Enhancement ~ Flavors ~ Brands

Liquid iv sugar free, they have like ten different flavors now that are sugar free. Most are decent. Gatorade zero packets. We go through quite a bit of each but the kids and I prefer the Gatorade zero more . I use a lot more water than they call for, but I just need a little flavor. After working construction for 25 years, I get burned out on straight water.

When your family likes to fall over dead in their late 30s to early 40s fairly consistently and the doctors tell you to cut out sodium, you kind of don’t have much of a choice. This would have all been advice from the 90s to early early 2000s so I am sure the research and understanding has widely changed.

When you spend most of your life not salting things, it’s hard to start. I just don’t like the taste of most stuff salted. I do salt things more now than I have in the past. The quickest way to ruin popcorn is to salt it.

I drive a desk for 40 a week and am not much for working out but I will definitely get some sodium supplements for when I start hiking more again. It was amazing the difference I felt. I would advise anyone that hasn’t tried it, to try it at least once.
Sounds similar to me growing up. Nobody in the family used much salt.
I'm Italian/Serbian and it seemed like my folks and grandparents used pepper in everything.

Taking the girls out for a camping trip into the Mtns. Will need to filter the water and want to add some flavor
for the girls. I want them to drink plenty of water. Familiar with MIO, any other brands and flavors you like? Packets/powders, drops?
If just going for flavor crystal light from Walmart is good and cheap. Otherwise for caffeine and hydration I use MTN Ops.

I use Saltt "clean slate" which has no sweeteners for electrolytes but for longer activities I'll add in some Tailwind which does have sugar but provides some quick fuel.

Are you using the tailwind hydration or fuel? I only use the fuel on 2 hr bike rides or longer. Its got quite a bit of sugar in it.

We keep all kinds of them around and on hand. My wife had a pretty serious hyponatremia that hospitalized her and almost killed her. She flushed all the salts out of her body drinking too much plain water in some extreme heat at a horse event almost 10 years ago.

Since then she’s been religious about drinking electrolyte packets and low sodium drink mixes. Her favorites are the Pure Kick and the Propel packets. We also keep a wide variety of the Walmart brand on hand that are no sugar and low sodium. We’ve recently been trying the FireSalt packets. They are fairly heavy on the salt, but they also have potassium and magnesium in them. We just mix them in larger quantities of water to dilute it down. My daughter loves the Walmart brand and propel. Kiwi and watermelon being her favorites.
