What it did for me was make me pay attention. What the blundering potus did when talking about food shortages was force me to believe the reality that times are going to get a lot tougher.


I’ve got plenty of food bought up. I’ve got plenty killed up. I’ve got ways to preserve it if power goes too. And, for the first time in nearly 50 years, I’m pretty sure all the preparation is going to turn out as a good plan.


God Bless this country. Even if we don’t deserve it. Because we are going to need it to survive the times.

In local news, pharmacies in the Midwest are now overloaded with take-home Coronavirus test kits that they can’t even give away. The test kits have a short expiration life and will soon end up in the landfills. Your federal tax dollars at work. Enjoy!

Yep and lets not forget all the free N95 masks. Local CVS has them out in what appears to be the twenty count bags they're shipped in. I snagged some for doing construction type work.

Gas prices. I commute about 65 miles a day. I recently parked my F150 and started driving my 1992 green Ford Escort. It's got 2 broken coil springs and makes alot of weird clunking sounds but it gets around 32 MPG. It's saving me over $100 a week in gas.

I bring it to the lumberyard and load it up with anything I can fit in it. Pretty funny actually.

The other thing is Groceries. We went shopping this week and the bill was $410. If we go over $300 on a regular trip it was a big one. We bought our usually stuff, everything just cost more right now. Everything. Especially meat.

All the restaurants have raised their prices as well. You can't go to lunch without spending close to $20. That's pretty much double what it was last year.

It's not affecting me financially in a detrimental way, but I'm not happy about the added expense due to government incompetence either.

I always have to weigh the prices because my Toyota gets about 30% less mileage with the ethanol fuel, so the ethanol-free fuel has to be less than 30% more than regular to make sense. It's right at that break even point right now. But since we always seem to have fuel points where they don't sell the ethanol-free stuff, that makes it a no-brainer right now.

We are in the first time home buyer boat. Its been rough and never in my life did I think I would be dealing with this but it is what it is. I tell everyone that the hardest part for me and my wife is that your supposed to be excited about buying your first home because its your first home. We will be excited to get one because its over and we don't have to deal with trying to find one.

We haven't offered less than 10% over and have offered upwards of 30% more than asking and still havent gotten one. Thought we had one in January and it was everything my wife and I have wanted, so it was starting to make sense on why none of the other ones worked out...missed it by 10 grand to an all cash buyer.

Life aint always sunshine and roses but you make the best of it.

I feel for you. Not much sympathy for people in your shoes out there. I was there a few years ago and I know it’s only gotten worse. Still pisses me off when I think how much we paid for what we got but we couldn’t put life on hold any longer.

Just from experience, you might want to consider Mylar bags and oxygen absorbers for the beans, rice, flour etc.
The eggs in those that are there naturally will hatch eventually and ruin the food.

That's the point we are getting at. We are lucky that our apartment is cheap compared to others in the area and that the landlord hasn't raised the pricing to much. We havent found a home for lack of trying that is for sure.

I agree on the sympathy part as well. Not that I am really looking for sympathy but in the last two years, I have been told everything I have done wrong and never once have I been told I have done anything right.

The housing market has been absurd. Now that the sales of homes we put offers on closed, we saw the winners were $70k over our offer. We offered well above asking too.

Consumer debt is skyrocketing. ARM's are making a come back, yeah the loan that created '08. The average American can't not afford paying an additional $300-600 a month on food, utilities, gas, and every other item that's simply costing more.
If prices level out before fall, most will make it, if prices hold or continue upward into next year, there will be deals to be had like in '08.

I had never even heard of that. I spent the last 10 minutes googling paying house off through inflation. Lol
