Wondering how everyone picks there Leuko tape? Don’t want to bring the whole roll that weighs 5oz but doesn’t seem to stick after wrapping it around something like I do with duck tape

On chapstick. On trekking pole. On quiver. Around a lighter.

I always have one of those with me.

And I usually put it on before I leave for a backcountry trip. And usually that prevents me from needing to deploy during the trip. But if not, I have a few wraps in all those places.

I stick strips on old sticker backings. You can get label paper from an office supply store or use the address stickers from the post office.

Also OP if you’re not already using it benzoin tincture will make that stuff stick like nobody’s business. I bought a big bottle and some tiny dropper bottles and just keep a little dropper bottle of it in my kit with the leukotape.
Wipe it over the area you’re gonna apply with a small margin, let dry, stick the leukotape on. It won’t come off until you make it come off.

I usually wrap it on a small emergency flashlight I have in my pack but have seen others do it on trekking poles below the grip and do the other pole with electric/gaff tape.

I bring the leukotape that already has backing on it and cut some for immediate use to put in a very accessible pocket on the outside of my pack and then carry more in my first aid kit.

On an old 35mm plastic film canister that holds my meds. A medicine bottle or small nalgene bottle would work as well. Essentially put it on something round that has another use but isn't exposed or handled regularly.

I’ve had the same issue as the OP. I love the tape, but after wrapping it around itself on a pole/pen/lighter/etc; when I need to use the tape it just doesn’t seem to stick anymore. It’s like all the glue leaches out onto the outer surface, which also sticks to my pants/socks/etc helping to remove it from the location I need it to be. I’ve also found that even a new role will do this after a while, probably due to the heat down here in Houston.

The label backing is a brilliant idea tho. I’m going to try that.

Same as the label backing mentioned, I use the backing from KT tape strips, my wife uses those and I save the backing to put other tape on, or I wrap it around something round.

I put it on before I leave and don’t mess with it. I did pack some a few times and my best strategy is to use a roll down to where it’s smaller and save it for packing. Tried putting strips on wax paper and large bandaid backing and it didn’t work.
