Hornady CX?

That’s good to hear. I just built a 6mm creedmoor and picked up a box of those. Hoping they do well for deer with the kids. Plus I get to use it for coyotes and tell the wife it’s for the kids haha

My youngest son shot his cow elk last year using the 80 grain CX out of a 243. 42 yard shot went through both shoulders and found the bullet in the exit side hide. Still weighing 79.7 grains and perfect performance

No experience with the CX yet. But the 80gr is on the list for my wive’s 243win.

Not to turn your thread around on you. But which TSX have you used?

I haven’t personally used the TSX on game. Worked up a 200gr TSX load for a 30-06 but never took a shot on game with it. I’ve shot game with all the other ones such as TTSX and LRX. Obviously they are very similar projectiles and I assume they would perform just as well but I haven’t technically took game with the TSX. It’s hard to beat the performance of a Barnes bullet. I would prob still be running the LRX’s if the CX had not shot better.

I believe the key with monos is the speed. Shooting a higher projectile than you normally would is key.

I had shot an aoudad at 350 yards in West Texas in the Chianti's in 2020 with a 150 grain .308 bullet in a 300 Winchester with a 28 inch proof barrel. Chronograph at over 3400 FPS at the muzzle.

This was a TTSX.

I could not get the Hornady GMX to shoot as well.

I shot two Aoudad Ewes with the .30 165gr. MV was ~2880 and impact was ~2400 at 250 yards.

Both traveled around 50 yards before expiring. Pass throughs on both, with one shot being a fairly hard quartering-to.

While both died quickly, I'm going to guess expansion was on the lower end of the scale. I'm going to agree with the "More muzzle velocity is better for monos" statement.

I helped a friend pick out a 6.5 tikka and she wanted coppers. She had the Hornady outfitter, the Barnes LRX and the fed trophy coppers. They all shot 1”-1.25” @ 100yds. The Barnes edged out the other two for two reasons. It shoot slightly better and the LRX has a lower min expansion velocity.

If I was shooting the rifle I bet I could have got the groups tighter.

I use the 190 .308 CX in my 300WSM and they are accurate with decent BC. They are going to Africa in July so will have even more data when I return on performance.
I run 175 LRX in my 300 WSM (3150fps and .890 Moa 5 round groups). I used to shoot 174 Hammers but $$$ (sheesh), +70fps over the LRX for more money doesn't make sense., and the LRX expands at speeds 200-300 fps slower than Hammers.
Now I'm looking to build a 300 SWSM for the 212 LRX Bore Riders. Riders..that's gonna be cool af.

The bullet on the left was fired into milk jugs at 350 yds the bullet on the right was at 250yds after going through 4 jugs and found in the backstop. Both are 140 CX fired from 6.5 creedmoor.

Thanks for posting! Really happy to see this! Especially their performance at (relatively) longer ranges and slower speeds. Planning on hunting with these 140gr ECX bullets this fall. We get them in Canada as well.

Sighter and 3 shot group from a Tikka T3x Lite stainless. 140gr ECX over Hornady's max load for H4350, 39.3 grains. It doesn't look as nicely expanded as yours because it came out of dirt.

They shot extremely well for me. I was pleased to see that they were expanding well below 2000fps. I still don’t think they will kill deer sized animals as quickly as the 143ELD or even the 120CX. If I needed a hard bullet for more penetration and all I had was a 6.5mm it should work well.

It so happened with this particular Tikka that if its zeroed at 100 for the 140gr ECX its 2 inches high with a 120gr CX over 40.6gr Staball Match.

Works for me.

Not expecting lightning fast kills with the ECX either but doubt its significantly different from plenty of things considered deadly enough, like a 30-30 etc. Looking forward to less meat damage.

Either sounds great for moose.

What kind of speed were you getting with this load and the 120grain you mentioned?
