Hey everyone, built a 7mm PRC with proof research CF barrel, and haven’t been happy with the 168gr Barnes after a bunch of experimenting. Bought some 160gr CX bullets to try, would love to see what your favorite loads are if you’re willing to share!

I don't have any experience with 160s or the prc, but I'm curious what powders you have tried with the Bergers?

I have a 24” proof sendero 7PRC. I’ve wasted to much barrel life trying to get both the 160CX and the 168LRX to shoot consistent groups and have given up. I’ve tried multiple primers and powders. The good groups could never repeat during the next range session. I do have about a 1moa load with both bullets. I think they are both using H1000 but I don’t have that info right now.

The same rifle shoots the 184 bergers .3 moa every range session in front of a stout load of N570. So that is all that rifle will shoot from now on. The 184 had a bang flop at 375yds on a muley this year. But I haven’t had an opportunity past that.

H1000, H4831sc, Retumbo, N570, 565 and 560 are all good powders

All I have tried so far is H1000. I have allot of H4831 as well, but won’t get the velocities I’m after.
Are you measuring your velocity? if so, what's your SD using h1000? I have also had good luck with retumbo, magpro, and RL26 in my magnums. If your SD is pretty big, I would look at changing powder, if its small then it is probably barrel harmonic/bullet related.

I haven’t tried the CX bullets yet, only Barnes 168gr. I’ll post an update with my SD

Little Crow Gunworks did a fantastic YouTube series on load development that included the 160 CX and 7 PRC

I'm still working on load development with the 160CX out of a 20" Clymr. Using ADG Brass, CCI 250 Primers and right now I'm playing with N560 and H4831SC. Jumping about .07" while I work through my charge testing. I also tried some N565 but I'm putting that on the back burner for now. Thus far, I'm finding that my setup likes about 66.2gr to 66.8gr of N560 for velocities around 2875-2900 and sub 0.5MOA groups. I also found another really nice range of H4831SC between 65.5gr and 66.1gr that's giving me about 2830-2860 velocities and sub 0.5MOA groups. Still tinkering with these loads. The ES on these ranges from 5-15. I'll let you know what I settle on.

Ok thanks.
I’ve built up some 160gr CX using H1000 and federal match magnum primers. Just need a day off to hit the range, then I’ll post the results.
