Guys.....
Shooting a bullet into wood, has no translation whatsoever to performance in tissue.

Is it the same as tissue? Of course not. In testing we work off of comparisons sometimes. For example, one could know that a specific bullet works excellent on game. Comparing that bullet and a new bullet under the same test conditions gives very good information. I expect after this fall is over with we'll have a pretty good idea how well the A-tips work under a variety of conditions.

That’s not how it works with bullets. I can state factually that shooting wood has zero correlation to tissue. It will only tell you how it performs in wood.
A-Tips work fine in tissue.
Umm yeah dude.. we all know wood's not flesh. That’s not how it works with bullets. I can state factually that shooting wood has zero correlation to tissue. It will only tell you how it performs in wood.

Tumbleweed said it pretty well, this is just a comparison to see how different types of bullets expand in the same media.
I've had 250 grain Berger's pencil through cedar logs with impact velocities around 2000 fps, and we all know they expand well on game at that velocity.
Ryan,
Are you using the hornady listed BC's or near for your ballistic solutions?
Awesome!While it's not wood
Two elk with 230s out of my 30 Nolser. Both at around 700 yards. Very similar results to a 230 Berger.
Awesome!
Could you have posted this before I wasted all my time doing nonsensical useless testing on wood lol...
What velocity are you running them in your 30 Nos?
Thanks2950 FPS with 570 and Bertram Brass.
Guys, apologies for the necropost but I wanted to see if we could revisit the topic of A Tip terminal performance.
Probably like many here, I was pretty excited to see the release of the A Tip. But early reporting on terminal performance from multiple people indicated a lot of inconstancy in how the A Tip killed game. When they performed as we were hoping, terminal results were impressive. But it seemed like a lottery that wasn't worth trying considering the down side in performance that people were finding when they didnt work in a high percentage of cases
But over the last few years, I have been seeing a lot of pretty consistent reports of good terminal performance from A Tips. And from the recent reports I have seen, this is across various calibres and bullet weights. And I have not been hearing much on the poor performance that seemed to happen in about 50% of the cases during the first 12 months or so of A Tips hitting the market.
I realise there are not recommended by Hornady for hunting. But nonetheless it makes me wonder if Hornady has quietly changed something in the construction of A Tips since the initial release?
Just wondering whether people have been using A Tips on game in the last few years, and if so, what the results have been?

@Ryan Avery, @Formidilosus, Are there enough reports on the 6mm 110 A-Tip on game to say whether or not to use it?
