Hooded grid fleece

I wish the ECWCS had a hood!! I have the $20 Condor fleece and it's awesome, but no hood. If that thing had a hood I'd be on cloud 9.

All mentioned are solid choices along with eh Sitka Heavyweight hoody.
I have the FL Klamath, Sitka Fanatic, had a newer SG helio hoody, and have the Patagonia R1 tech face. The SG helio did fit well, but the FL and Sitka both have a better stretch, loft, and hand feel to me. SG Helio and Patagonia R1 are a light midweight grid fleece vs the Sitka and FL. I would consider Klamath and Fanatic heavier weight and both have more loft to the grid vs SG. I wouldn’t hesitate to wear the Helio though it's very nice. Patagonia R1 is also a solid choice. The tech face I have is like the regular R1 with a tighter face fabric with dwr. It’s really nice but not as quiet.
The Klamath has my favorite fit and feel. If Sitka would make the Fanatic hoody without those goofy sleeves, keep the kangaroo pocket and ninja hood in different solid and camo options it would be tops. Or FL can give the Klamath the Kangaroo pocket.

yup I’ve had several and still come back to the FL Klamath

I have the Eddie Bauer high route grid fleece too and like it a lot. It seems pretty comparable in warmth to a Kuiu peloton 210 except I find it to be a lot more comfortable. It also seems to do well with not getting funky smelling in the armpits like the kuiu does. Not sure how the 240 is vs the other peloton stuff.

There was a time Cabelas had a hooded ECWCS. I have one and really like it. Sadly they no longer carry the hoody.

The Kryptek Cronos is another option for a grid fleece with a hood. To me, it's very similar to the Klamath. I really like the Klamath, but I do wish it had thumb holes in the sleeves. I find I use those a lot as they are great when layering, add a bit of concealment and warmth to the hands, etc. I have a Kryptek Cronos in their Inferno pattern for rifle hunting and like it quite a lot.

All that said, my favorite mid layer is the Voormi High-E Hoodie. They just released it in their camo patterns (I prefer the blowdown pattern). It's expensive and a heavier weight than most of the ones being mentioned. You also pay a weight penalty but I wear it most of the winter and love it. It has everything I want in a hoodie, thumb holes, quarter zip with a decent hood, merino blend, dwr face fabric, kangaroo pouch with zippers. If it's going to spend most of the time in the pack I'll take the Klamath or Cronos. If I'm going to be wearing it most of the time I'll take the Voormi.

I love Kuiu's Peloton 240. It comes with me almost every time. The Kryptek Arma Hoodie is a little heavier but it's also great and very warm.

How have you liked these two pieces? What are the reasons you would use one over the other? Is one more breathable than another, more windproof, warmer, etc?

Orvis makes a hooded grid fleece that may be my favorite along with one from a small company called Fayettchill. It's a polartech grid fleece but sometimes getting a color you are cool with can be challenging, they seem to sell out quickly and do not restock very often.

My favorite pro-hunting companies

Everyday
medium -Stone Glacier helio’s
Heavy- sitka fantic

If it had a kangaroo pocket the Klamath would be the top heavy

Beyond clothing has a grid fleece hoodie for 80$ I've been thinking about trying. Made in america
This is my favorite. Only one I used this year. Price is great. It’s definitely lighter than the Klamath hoodie. But for me it worked great.
Just fyi this piece isn’t made in the USA. They do have some products that are though.

I’ve had the same Patagonia R1 for nearly 20 years. I bought it back when I was full time ski patrol and decided it was too hot for skiing in all but the coldest temps, but perfect for the stop and go nature of hunting. It may be my favorite piece of clothing for it’s versatility.

So from reading here, people think the First Lite is a little heavier than the R1? And the Stone Glacier is closer in weight?

I’m a huge fan of the Klamath. I have them for hunting and work. Never hit the woods without one

I’ll second the Voormi High E Hoodie. Very versatile, does well even as an outer layer. But, it is WARM. It shines as a low activity insulation layer or if you are a person that runs cold.

Ya, it's definitively much thicker and heavier than most of the hoodies mentioned in this thread. I really like it for still hunting and as an outer layer when winter hiking/snowshoeing. Not really a backpacking piece but I still prefer it over my Klamath for most situations.

I’ve worn mine for a week straight a couple times. 24hrs/day. Love it. With my “hair style” the perfectly fitted hood is very welcome.

I have one that is like 6 years old, I can’t kill it. My new ones don’t see the light of day. Everyone laughs because I have it on in like every picture for the last 6 years….m y buddy has tried to buy from me. I have a standing offer for 400 if it comes with its mojo

The hair is epic btw. They should put you in the Sitka Catalog
