Honda ATV OEM parts $$$$$$$$

This is my first rant. I needed some help trouble shooting my 2007 Honda Foreman 500. I called multiple Honda dealers and not one of them would help me. They won't work on a Honda ATV more than 10 years old. Today I needed brake shoes for the rear of the same machine. Amazon would deliver them (5 days) on Monday for $13.32. I wanted to go ahead and get them fixed today so I could take my wife turkey hunting this weekend. I called a Honda dealer to check on inventory. "yes, we have them" they said. I didn't ask the price. How much could 2 small brake shoes cost? I drove the 35 miles to the dealer and they had the brake shoes laying on the counter for me. Total with tax $83.82.

It always sucks, but that's pretty standard. Just about anything can be had significantly cheaper online than from the dealer's parts counter. You also never really know if what you were getting from Amazon was actually Honda or just claiming to be, but that doesn't always matter either as long as the parts are compatible.

Check Partzilla.com. They have OEM Honda parts and may be a bit cheaper.

Local Polaris dealer wanted $1080 CAD for ONE rear shock for my 2012 RZR 800 last summer. When the parts guy quoted it, I said no, not all 4 shocks, just need one. He said it is for one! Needless tro say I walked out.

Ordered a pair of rears online for $360 CAD.

I get the majority of OEM parts from RockyMountainATV.com, which is usually the cheapest. In that dealer's defense, those brake shoes for your machine are $70 on there. OEM is usually expensive, but it's usually much higher quality than the knock-off crap, especially Honda.

The real BS here is that your dealer doesn't work on anything more than 10 years old..

Stealers not dealers. I've had it go both ways as far as quality goes. Had aftermarket parts outlast factory and vise versa. Never had issue with aftermarket brake pads, they are probably made in the same chicom factory as manufacturer's and rebranded.

Even some of the aftermarket OEM parts are going out of sight.

The backlight on my Honda foreman went out. Ya.......I won't be replacing that anytime soon. Ever actually.

Second the Partzilla recommendation. I bought a bunch Honda parts from them a few years ago while restoring an ‘85 Foreman. They are top notch.

I always tell my wife that you can tell those post-apocalyptic movies like Mad Max are fake because otherwise you'd see a lot more people riding around on mid-90s Honda 4 wheelers..

Yeah, it's worth doing your homework.

My buddy needed an OEM chevy part for his truck- 2 months out and $800.

He found it on Amazon- same OEM part for $342. and had it in 3 days.

Next order it and run with out the brakes for the weekend. Brakes are over rated anyways.

Welcome to the dealership, and it’s not just Honda. I watched a dealership service department head tell a guy they wouldn’t work on a 7 year old pickup with less than 80k on it that needed a gasket. There had been a body redesign and they had discontinued the family of gasoline engines with the redesign. “Sorry Sir we don’t work on trucks that old, those 351s are obsolete”.

Some OEM parts are worth the money, brake shoes probably aren’t those parts.
