Hoffman Explorer Boot Review Thread ***Updated 2/12/20***

My brother is a private forester and has been using Hoffman’s for years. He turned me on to them, and they indeed make the best pack boot in the industry, and I’ve tried a lot of them. I can’t wait to try their hunting style boots. I’m sure they’ll eclipse all expectations like the pac’s did for me. Thanks for the write up Les, please keep us informed. Also, thanks Hoffman’s for coming on here and telling us your story.

Also have a pair of Hoffman pacs. Going on 3-4 years now. Schnees had to much flex in the sole for my liking when putting miles on in the winter. Heavy, yes, but so warm.

I have a pair of the 8” explorers with a composite toe for work. Definitely fill a nitch. Great lightweight/waterproof boot with good traction.

They have not brought me any luck so far but my feet continue to be happy one of the few pairs of boots I did not look to swap out the insole...another wet day in the brush but the feet stayed dry

Some more ground and pound in north Idaho everyday out so far soaked On this sequence 5k of gain and descents plenty of room in the toe box no black toenails one great encounter on a 340 bull that should be in the freezer but as they so often do the wind was his friend and some good days with a long time friend...these boots continue to perform in the brush country

After a poor experience with my current boots the last few weeks I can't wait to try a pair of Hoffman's. The $400 boots I bought a little over a year ago left me with soggy feet for 9 days in the back country. I'm debating sizing so maybe I'll give you a call to discus.

My favorite state to hunt is my home state of Idaho.....in case you would like me to try out a pair of those 10" explorers.

Another wet day in north Idaho seems to be a trend this year....the laces that come with the Hoffman boots won’t need replacing soon after wearing another plusHopefully one of these elusive big rub makers will show later this week

Due to the upcoming very cold temps in north Idaho and liking these Boots so much I ordered the insulated version a week before rifle season and very glad I did. Can say for me no breakin required super comfortable and helped my feet stay warm in the low teens and will keep you dry on stream crossings. back At it tomorrow only raghorns seen so far will leave them for ryan and his goats thousands of feet below this old manthis bull won’t be so lucky if seen

I work in the forestry industry in northeast Washington, I have been using the explorers for a couple seasons now with no issues. I have sold a couple of my coworkers on getting a pair and they both love them as well. My search for the “unicorn” of boots is over, thanks Hoffman’s keep it up!

But it can be in all case that deers are gravely hurt by car collision. some times day can live through it. whats the best thing to do then ?

Another few day grinding in the elk woods of nidaho...followed a harem master another 6x7 I believe as not far from this recent pic giving low key bugles to avoid the wolf detection to many of his rubs and beds with his harem good times but he gave me the slip on two days the boots will lead you right to where they were hours prior

Nice work and thanks for the updates. Really nice bull, but I'm looking forward to some better pics of him in your hands! Are you running the 8"? I had the pleasure of packing a bull out this morning. I was really wishing I had a pair of Hoffman explorers on my feet.

I went with the eight inch both insulated and non And wear gaiters when wet.Comparison of the sole insulated versus non the variance is to give you better traction in snow will comment next month on this hopefully yes have a chance to put my hands on those antlers can say my pants are falling off from all the climbing in elk season and still have all of November to chase muleys

A little deer prep with my boy Odin in some nice flat north Idaho countryanyone grabbing the Hoffman’s will enjoy the ride they provide for your feet

Nothing like time in the cabinets range when it is fing cold3 days on the hill one decent 4pt gets a pass and several little bucks things should rut up soon.....solid traction with the Hoffman’s in the snow by day 3 did see a little leakage after 20 plus hours in snow but very happy with them

Ross and @Hoffman Boots, can you provide more detail on the insulated model. The website says insulated with Windtherm insulation but that isn't something I'm familiar with. Is it comparable to 200-400g of thinsulate?

Just realized bob wards in montana has these in store so I will be trying some on it I can convince them to order a size 14 or 15

I checked with Jim and here is his response.

From what I understand, this should be equivalent to somewhere around the 400 gram area. One thing to consider is even though 400 grams sounds like a lot of insulation, it is not. It basically equates out to a light weight pair of wool sock. We are working on a new 10” Hunter boot that will feature not only the Windtherm but an additional 600 grams of thinsulate. This will be a great boot for guys looking for a little extra insulation in cold temperatures.
