Hip Surgery this Thursday

Thats too bad on the robot that extended your surgery time.Sounds like your doing well so far. I never took an oxy for pain only tramadol which is med pain relief. Off of that now. Take some stool softener. I didn't go for 6 days after. Sending prayers for speedy recovery. Let pain and limp be your guide for rest and help of a walking device.
Best wished

Yes, my recovery has been exceptional!!! Not much pain. Stopped the opioids the second day. Not much swelling, no infection, very little pain. Went back to work and driving after two weeks, could have gone back early. I was walking a mile after several days. PT is excellent. I’m happy as hell to walk, almost euphoric! I’m afraid of overdoing it, doing something stupid. I’m a very clumsy oaf. Thanks all!!!

I went to the ortho doc today and he looked at my X-rays and did a exam and he said my right hip is in the bordeline “severe” category and my lefty is about 6 years behind (Im 51, my dad has had both hips replaced and my younger brother has had one). I went in because of having so much discomfort after exercising. I have my replacement surgery scheduled for March 17th… I’m hoping to be ready for a backpack hunt at the end of Sept.

Follow your surgeons directions, PT, and you good in three months. I’m at 9 weeks and 95% recovered, range of motion, back to normal. I got severe hip arthritis 5 years ago and was approved for replacement 4 years ago. In hindsight I would have got the replacement 3 years ago. However, I bought 3 years by waiting. The replacements last about 20 years give or take and the success on revision surgery is low. In 20 years I’ll be 82. Bill

My left hip cartilage appears “to me” to have thinned out greatly and I’ll probably get that one replaced in 5, 10 years if it bothers me. It does now.

What’s weird is there are days that it’s pretty dang bad and there are other days like today it’s not too bad. I have a situation where it’s possible I may not have as good of insurance in the near future, so part of my just wants to get it done.

It’s when I twist on it ( internal and external rotation) that hurt,..and when he did the exam and moved the hip in those directions it hurt pretty bad.

I had my left hip replaced almost 10 months ago last June, and it was a huge success! ALL the pain is GONE! I was riding my motorcycle again in no time I was back on the job in 3 months, and my work requires a lot of walking. Ya gotta take your pain meds and then hit the rehab like a gym workout, and walk, walk, walk. I had to learn to sleep on my back. I am just now getting to where I can sleep on that left side again. As soon as I finish this work project that I am currently on, which should be a month or two, I am going back in for the right hip replacement. Give me 6 months and with 2 new hip joints I'll be a new man.

I am finding the comments about the taking of antibiotics before getting teeth cleaned very strange...

I had my last hip done ten years ago. I can ride for hours, walk, climb and function without pain or discomfort. I find it uncomfortable to stand without moving for extended periods of time and my days of jumping out the back of my pickup are gone- forever.
You will never regret getting the upgrade.

I’m 12 days post op. Posterior Muscle Sparing technique is what my surgeon used. Things are progressing as normal, doing PT and the walking schedule they gave me. Evenings are worse as it seems the hip gets tired, and my right leg wants to get ‘restless’ or fidgety at night. Pain was manageable with the medication protocol they gave me. So far so good.

I’m just past 3 months. I laid on my right side on the hard concrete working on the truck yesterday. My right side definitely hurt a little from the pressure from the hard surface. I limp a bit, especially after being on the ground. It goes away after walking. I’m getting my teeth cleaned in a few weeks, I need to take antibiotics before I do. My surgeon said to do this forever. Overall I’m very happy with the surgery. Bill

Take the antibiotics before dental work, have seen multiple infected prostheses from bacteremia from minor invasive procedures. Scanned a patient a month in a hospital with a busy ortho service for loosening versus infections, none were recent surgery patients. Father in law had a pig valve in his heart and got subacute bacterial endocarditis because a urologist did a prostate biopsy without ab coverage. Almost died.
