Every time I visit the coast I think about how I should have enough at this point in my life to have a place there. It's about as cool as it gets in terms of places to be.

I was just in the Northern coast last month, beautiful in the spring, especially compared to frozen AK

Bring a tent and camp out at Crater!

Also not mentioned was the Lewis and Clark national historic park just out of Astoria.

Also cannon beach proper is crowded no parking but lots more parking in Tolovana, and can walk up

Also Hug point had its parking lot closed but everyone still parks on the Hwy and walks down

Did you happen to check if there were any cabins at Union Creek? It’s close by but may be booked already.

Diamond lake, close by Crater Lake has a campground and Resort. Both offer cabins with various amenities. Rustic to fancy. Worth checking. Can have bugs, bring repellant.

September on the Oregon Coast can be amazing. Crabbing should be picking up from the summer molt.

The sportsman’s pub in pacific city has awesome fish and chips, if you can swing it go for a dory fishing trip. Kiwanda head is cool. Go take a guided dune ride at spinreel or rent a utv and go. Fishing at the mouth of the rogue should be kicking off then as well.

That's a nice haul. Our season closes Labor Day and usually re-opens in early October sometime. Last couple years have been sketchy. Lots of softs that we have to throw back.

Back on track, the Newport area is nice. Yaquina Bay is delightful. The channel between the bay and ocean is loaded with crab.

I am sure you already know this but all water level access is closed including the main trail at Crater Lake. I dont think there are any other ways to legally hike down to the water.

Places to day - If you are open to driving for around an hour to the lake there a lot of options.

Lots of good breweries in Astoria. And check out the Astoria Column on the hill. Pretty awesome views.

Yes, my wife read where the trail down to the water is going to be closed down for a couple years for repairs. She was pretty bummed about it but has a couple other hikes she wants to do there.

We did some work around Gearhart, like 20 mins south of Astoria. Lots of good places to eat. If you like to zip line or never did it, a place near Astoria had some of the best zip lining my family has done. If the timing works, Astoria on a Sunday has a town market where they close down quite a few streets w local vendors, crafts, food. If there is a guy down by the river selling salmon chowder at a little stand, you r gonna want to get yourself a bowl of that.

If you walk down to the beach, make sure you have something on your feet till you get to the water. Those little trails thru the grass have some nasty little spikey stickers. We found out the hard way.

Yes, my wife read where the trail down to the water is going to be closed down for a couple years for repairs. She was pretty bummed about it but has a couple other hikes she wants to do there.

I don’t know which park entrance you’ll leave from, but if you go out the west entrance and go north on Hwy 230 you’ll pass a cool rock outcrop called Rabbit Ears. If you Google it the photos will be underwhelming. It’s a unique landmark and it worth laying eyes on. You can see it from the highway so no need to detour unless you want to. There’s a trail at Rabbit Ears but I’ve never hiked it.

Hwy 230 will dump into Hwy 138 at Diamond Lake. If you hang a right you’ll go past the north entrance of the park and to Hwy 97 (if you plan on heading to Bend). That section of Hwy 138 is cool because in a very short distance you go from the lush west side of the Cascades, over the summit and quickly drop into the arid east slope of the Cascades dominated by big Pondersa and lodgepole pine, and bitterbrush.

Sorry for the long-winded reply. I have no idea if any of that interests you but, if you happen to be going that way, it’s kind of cool.

Just looking to see if anyone has some don't miss places along the coast or things to do, hikes, lesser know spots etc...
We are doing the "normal" places Astoria, Cannon Beach Depoe Bay, Yachats, Florence, and Bandon. My wife's big thing is national parks so we are going to hit Rewood NP and run over to Crater Lake NP too.
We are flying into Portland then over to Astoria then south along the coast. Spending 9 days total in Oregon.

I didn’t read the this entire thread so this may have been mentioned. The last standing Blockbuster is somewhere in the area you will be. My wife and kids are doing a very similar trip there this week. Also, there’s a Pronto Pup somewhere around there too.
