If you have children, you probably speak them about them in the same way that marine NCOs and officers speak about infantry marines.

If you lock them in a room with three hardened ball bearings after three hours they would’ve broke one lost one and they wouldn’t know where the third one is.

So yes, marine proof, or airman proof or soldier, proof, or sailor proof or childproof

The build has started!

Found a Defiance AnTi X short action, standard bolt, in stock and ordered it.

I purchased a new MDT HNT 26 folder/Arca off of the classifieds today.

Going to most likely go with a Proof Prefit 22” 6.5 CM to start, as I can have one within a couple weeks.

Decided against the WTO Switchlug and will instead invest in a barrel vise and action wrench.

I still will want to order up a prefit 18” 6.5 CM and a 16” 338 Fed though. If anyone has recommendations on a place for those, I’d appreciate it.

I like the options that Straight Jacket Armory has, along with the quality of their work from what I can find.. however the last couple years have been rough on them with the long list of overdue barrels and negative chatter on Snipershide.

Carbon 6, has very mixed reviews. Talking to the shop in Wyoming today where I found the action, I was told that the last couple barrels from them have been bad. I don’t know enough to be able to determine if a barrel is to spec or not, so really don’t want to run the risk of ending up with a poor barrel.

Preferred has options, but it seems like they only offer Heavy Palma contours for their carbon barrels. Sounds too heavy for my wants.

I’d prefer Proof barrels is what it comes down to.

Russ at Bugholes (Southern Precision) can spin you up a light 3 contour bartlein steel barrel which at your lengths will be lighter than carbon and still able to host a 5/8x24 suppressor safely. 850 bucks and you know it'll be a shooter. That's the path I went...you already scratched the carbon itch! now be sensible ;-P

Lots of good smiths out there that will chamber a pre-fit for an AnTi with your blank of choosing at about the same price as straight jacket so I'd avoid them. If wanting a lightweight carbon, benchmark is a good alternative to proof as well and you can order chambered barrels direct from them although their prices have come up quite a bit to where it might be more economical to have them ship a barrel to a smith.

I’ll 2nd Russ at Bugholes/SPR. They have built 1 rifle for me and have a 2nd that should be done in July. First one is the most accurate rifle I have owned. Even if you have to send your action in they could fit both barrels and you could switch yourself after that.

Another action option for others to consider that I haven’t built on yet but is smoother than my AnTi and comes in slightly under 20 oz. Initial review of fit and finish is impressed. Falkor Defense LW7. Lead time was about 6 weeks.

Is it as smooth as x-ring has said it is? I'm curious for an NRL hunter type setup.

Rings Selected: Unknown Munitions Hinged Scope Rings, 30mm - Low.

These look like they will be available in July.

*** Corrected Below***

The Torx bit required for the screws will make it easy to carry a Fix It Stick with a mini torque limiter in the field, as opposed to a larger socket, which the NF UL rings require.

You carry a torque limiter into the mountains?

I have not, but feel like it's a good idea to have with you at times when weight isn't a huge factor, in your truck or taking with me when I'm out on hike & shoot training days. A T handle and a 25 & 65 ft. lb limiter are pretty light.

I received the HNT 26 today from @VirginiaBeach. It is brand new and unused.
There are a couple areas that I'd welcome feedback on though.

First thoughts that come to mind is that the fore end attachment sure seems like it could potentially be a weak spot, both from a durability perspective in the mountains, and also removing and attaching it when I want to switch barrels. Has anyone had a failure here, or run into issues by repeatedly removing and replacing the fore end?

Second, I have smaller hands. The standard grip is pretty large and not very ergonomic for me.
I see that for $200 you can buy the vertical carbon grip that looks like it might have a less pronounced “swell” to it.

Has anyone found either of these to be issues, and if so, what did you do about it?

I wonder, as the HNT 26 uses an AR style grip.. would the Smoke Composites Ultralight Pistol Grip fit on here?
