Help finalize the "Dixie Zipper" (Mini CBK) for a group buy

Is the Micarta grindable with "common" tools (dremal or similar)? I'm in for one, but trying to decide between G10 and Micarta and want to make sure I'll be able to ramp the handle where it meets the blade.
Micarta requires a good sharp belt, it will grind and burn a little more than G10 if you aren’t careful. It’s not difficult, just go slow. Hand tools won’t burn obviously.

I am going to put a pretty good ramp at that transition and break those edges. You may not need to do it.

@hereinaz - as the website is shown now - it appears as though one could order a lime green handled knife, but not a lime green sheath? It would have to go with an orange or black sheath? Would it be possible to have a green knife with a green sheath?
I may add a green sheath depending on the number of green knives sold. My handle is going to make the sheaths too, so I will ask about mix and match numbers.

G10 is a little easier to work with but either is workable with common tools.

#3 thinned down some per request. And a couple neck knives because I needed a new one for fishing.

Really enjoying this thread and the beautiful work put into these knives @Dixie and @hereinaz. The philosophy behind this knife lines up with what I want in a hunting knife. Getting ready to place a pre-order.

The blue micarta with orange is absolute fire. Any chance that will be available from LS Wild?

Can you post a close-up pic of a finished edge vs the tumbled laser edge to help me with the decision?

Thanks!
Ben

How long do you expect the preorder sale to run? Do I have time to see if there is a black G10 option?
Thanks
It is $140 now, it will go up to $165 on or before July 1, and preorders will close by July 15. Sales will open up in the store after all preorders are filled. Retail will be $195 plus or minus depending on costs.

Sweet. Ordering the micarta version. Was worried based on the picture, but makes sense that it wouldn’t be of the final product since they don’t exist yet.

Pretty unlikely to make it for my September elk hunt but I’ll try and do a follow up review on a whitetail (hopefully I didn’t jinx myself). Thanks again for putting this together.

Told myself I was going to wait but the preorder price is too good to pass up…Order placed!

Sorry to do that, but I kinda wanted it to be a screaming deal for everyone that contributed to the thread… and I want to take your money. But leave you happy in the end.
No apology necessary, you’re bringing out great products at good prices, just keep up the good work! My birthday is in the fall so I’m calling it an early birthday present to myself!

I hope the handles meet expectations, and for anyone who is disappointed, I will always work out a solution even if it is a refund.

You’ll all see the final drafts and have input.

But, if I were to guess, there will probably be more regrets that they didn’t get the pre-order (or a second) than regrets they did do one pre-order.

Not sure if the weights have been posted on this thread already. (There are 19 pages!) For those that might be interested, below are the weights on some of the pass around knives.

Comparison to a Mora knife. Just posting this to be able to look at the handle size, blade length, and blade shape. (Since the Mora knife is fairly common and well known. Definitely a different feel to the two knives. The curved blade angle of the Dixie Zipper really stands out for the skinning motion as intended, improved ergonomics as well.)

@hereinaz

Couple questions that I didn't see through the thread. What angle would you recommend using for resharpening when using a lansky sharpener? thinking since you're considering carrying lansky options and they have fixed angle selections. Guys with different sharpeners will have more choices on degree selection - thinking work sharp and wicked egde but would be helpful to know.

Second: would the taco style sheath accommodate a clip plate like the esse version or would the specs be totally different on grommet placement?

@Dixie what’s the preferred angle you use?

I am thinking I will match the ESSE #3 if possible or if it doesn’t fit I will add a square plate. That let the user choose the type of clip on his own. And, I will probably offer a couple clip models/options separately.

Sounds great. Thanks

Will these be available prior to the preorders shipping?
