Have you won a hunt raffle?

If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have [no] luck at all.
"Born Under a Bad Sign" - 1960's Charles King then redone by Cream i believe.

I've never won a hunt. I did win a shotgun ($50 raffle ticket) and a few other odds and ends like camo gear etc.

I won a mountain caribou hunt in northern BC a few years ago. It was an amazing time had with Backcountry bc and beyond. I'm hoping to save up enough one day to do a combo goat and grizzly hunt in their Yukon area.

I won a 1 in 19 chance at a Colorado Elk hunt in 2026, hopefully I can report back that I won...not likely, but I did get a nice gun with the first round.

Never won anything. Have 5-10 more points than average draws in almost every category here in WA and have never drawn anything for a critter that has horns. A couple cow tags and that's it in near 25 years of applying. Maybe time to move.

I’ve put more than I care to count up towards different organizations raffles. In person I’ve won a rifle, shotgun, and pistol. Online/mail-in raffles haven’t won anything.

A couple (2-3) years ago, my dad won a west Texas mule deer hunt. He went there and they basically drove him in a side by side and he shot his mule deer in the first 30 minutes of a 3 day hunt. He said it was ok but sort of weird.

I won a savage 17hmr at some friends of the nra thing, I had to pay shipping and FFL fees and I didn’t even want the gun. I think in the end it cost me 200 dollars for some shitty camo savage 17. I sold it to a guy before ever shooting it.

If you win, don't forget to claim the "total value" on your taxes as income--- then most likely you'll be paying 30% ( or more) of the value to the good old gvt in income tax next year

Lots of times if you calculate, you can book a hunt cheaper then the taxes you'll have to pay.

No. I live in Washington, and our gambling laws make it illegal to enter online raffles. Lots of people do not know the state can prevent them from claiming their prize.

I have gone to the last few Full Draw Film Tour in Boise. A big part of the event is selling raffle tickets and giving away items. They usually get my hopes up by calling out every number of my ticket except for the last one. Last year I felt like they overdid the raffle part to the point I will probably not go back on a work night. The event went way too late and most of it was drawn out raffles for small items no one is likely getting very excited about anyways.
Some people seem to be lucky with draws and raffles. I have not been one of those to this point.

If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck. Same goes for "winning" a raffle or lottery. There has to be a loser and its always me

Not that i ever win but i think i would forget and take my chances

I’ve won a few guns and had a friend win a 2 person mule deer hunt which I bought from him for cheap. I’ve got a buddy that thinks he wins things at the banquets when he’s the highest bidder…

Do winners get a 1099?
From what I have 'researched' - Sometimes.

It appears to depend on the value of the prize. There are some rules about value level before reporting is required - if there is no reporting, no 1099 is sent and a person has to self-report the 'additional income' [similar to gambling wins/losses]. I found that $5k seems to be the limit. If the declared value is greater than that, the prize givers have a lot more paperwork to deal with; if under that, they basically have to file only that the prize was awarded and attest to its value. Everything else then is required to be completed by the prize winner.

I think too, the prize giver can chose to withhold taxes [or pay them] when the prize is awarded - I've read this can happen with the high value stuff.

I don't know what the minimum value would have to be to not report it - maybe $600 or whatever minimum value is required before you have to file taxes?
