Has the Ruger American Gen 2 been out long enough to be considered “proven”?

Looking for something I can build and afford to shoot enough to cement fundamentals up to being consistent at 3-400 yards in the field on Black Bear, while still maintaining enough impact velocity to incapacitate the animal quickly. 6 creed seems like a possible good middle ground between .223 and the 6.5 creed

That’s my dead spring bear-shot from a gen II in 6creed. You could also use “less gun” like a 6 or 22arc and still have enough yardage for what you described.

Awesome! I think 6 creed is the cartridge I am leaning towards. What bullet? And is there anything you feel you needed to add to a Gen II out of the box to get it shooting/ handling the way you wanted it to?

I’m loading the 109 Hornady eld-m’s. A suppressor and a scope! I do have the trigger swapped out for the timney, but I wouldn’t say it’s necessary. My rifle was used yesterday evening to take another bear. 148 yards this time, but he shot the bear standing, square in the chest. The bear made it about 15-20 yards. Not a big one, but an easy packing bear!

Picked up a Ruger American Gen II Ranch Rifle in 22 ARC. It shoots pretty well, and the action is better than expected after reading all the reviews around here. Trigger is a little stiff and I need to pull it apart and see if I can adjust it down some. I put a SWFA 10x mil on it, my first SWFA, and I love it. I’m happy with the whole set-up so far.

I’ve got around 100 rounds through it. Sunday morning I grouped at 100 yards with 62gr ELD-VT, trued drop at 300 yards on a 3” circle, then got a first round hit and follow up hit at 775 yards on a 10” steel plate. Called it good to save ammo for varmint shooting in the upcoming months. Will likely shoot a few deer/antelope with it this fall with 75 or 88 ELD-Ms to see if the juice is worth the squeeze.

My wife has one in .308 and it's a shooter. My son has the first gen and it also shoots sub moa with factory ammo in .308

After reading the 223 thread I saw the ruger gen 2 ranch in 556 it checked a lot of boxes and was priced great. Took it apart and de-greased everything to include the bolt. Reduced trigger to what felt good, locktite and tourqued to spec. Added a suppressor Hand loaded 73 eldm shot sub 1.5 10 shot groups every time out. Took a deer with that load (first 223 deer kill for me)

Put a SWFA 10x on and switched to 77 otm from aac sight in was 1.2 for 12 rounds

Smooth as my Sako- no, but it shoots and makes a heck of a truck gun

In 30 minutes when this cures I'll finally be as cool as @BLJ

how is this mod working for you @BLG and @Shortschaf ? I just found this thread looking for 3d printing experience But I bought the vertical tikka grip and have it 90% cut and grind to fit like this, just a tad less vertical... cool to see others ahead of me. But dang this should be 3d printed to snap on locking in behind the ruger grip.

What I am also trying to do is get a decent scan of the LOP spacer so I can print a straight or elevated butt pad version... I can not understand why all these rifles have old traditional stock shapes vs closer to modern aftermarket stock geometries...

Maybe we should all go together for proper 3d scans to print the parts!

I opened up the barrel channel back to the action - now you have to try hard and deliberate to get it to touch the barrel, no chance of it impacting accuracy in field conditions - my 6 creed standard went from 1.2-1.5 moa to 0.6" for a 5 shot group... I am happy and cant wait to take it bear hunting next month! then pronghorn and then...

Everything is perfect for me and I'd do all of it again in a heartbeat to another ruger gen 2

A snap-in vertical grip and higher toe'd buttstock for these gen 2 stocks would sell really well Id think. The factory ergonomics are really terrible

We have a few in our household. They are good rifles for the price and all of ours have shot very well. They do leave something to be desired but they are sub $600.00 rifles.
