Has the Ruger American Gen 2 been out long enough to be considered “proven”?

G2 6 arc ranch
No issues with mine.
One can get a McCarbo spring, Jard trigger change out the magazine set up.
Stock, you like it or you don’t. Doesn’t bother me. Ruger should just bumped the price and put all the add ons in with the gun. You start buying those and you might as well buy a better stock of chassis system

I plan to snag a 7mm 08 American G2

No comment on Tikkas, don’t have one. But it seems like guys “accessorize “ those a lot too.

G2 in 6.5 creedmoor. Absolute tack driver with every type of ammo I’ve tried through it. My only gripe is ridding as a dusty farm truck gun the bolt and action get pretty stiff/sticky.

I just traded into a Gen 1. This is the first Ruger non rimfire long gun I have owned from them. With joy in my heart knowing I have shot multiple sub moa 5 shot groups already with that rifle. I honestly have no idea how the abomination of an action and stock made it to market. The action is a joke. I am an embarrassed to own it. But it shoots. I assume the Gen2 is similar.

Tell me why the gen 2 American sucks and I should buy a tikka instead. Other than the typical “smoother action and better trigger”.

Everyone I have shot well, but once you replace the trigger you are at Tikka cost, for possibility the same performance. Now that all the tikka's come threaded, The RAG2 doesn't have quit the appeal. With that's said RAG2 does have a larger swath of available calibers. . Both tikka and RAG2 stocks need a little dremeling. RAG2 doesn't sux just exactly what its meant to be a budget gun that shots well. Resale the tikka will always win do it preferred build and rebarrel market

If Tikka made a 6.5 Grendel I wouldn’t have to use the Ruger. Since it was a trade and shoots well it will stay in the stable and be a dedicated Thermal set up.

I have a Ruger Am. Gen II in 6.5 Creed in a 16 inch barrel. It's a bummer, but the action sucks. It's decently smooth when you run the bolt without a round, but it was really tough to cycle a spent round and rack a new one. To the point where I was like WTF is happening. The action is improving as I gets worn in (I guess) with use but overall, I would not recommend one of these rifles to someone with enough cash to buy something better. It is certainly not a "kid friendly" action.

While the rifle and stock have some neat features, I would not buy this rifle again based on the clunkiness of the action.

I will be hunting with my rifle this season because it's what I have and I like the short threaded barrel with a suppressor.

This is my own experience but I would say - buy a Tikka and never look back.

Why not a mini howa? Seems better than a Tikka or a RAR for ARC and Grendels

I'm a lefty, so I haven't bought one. Have shot several, and if a guy wants to run the aforementioned cartridges, they seem tough to beat.

I’ve got a gen 2 ranch in 556 and a tikka 223 cut and threaded at 18”..
To me there’s really no comparison in the 2. Everything about the tikka is better.
They both shoot great. I got the Ruger for a truck gun, but wish I’d have just spent a little more $ and bought another tikka

I have a Howa mini in 6.5Grendel. It is a better action but doesn’t shoot as well

Ruger's primary upside to me - 22 ARC, 6 ARC, and 6 Creedmoor chamberings.
I think this is the case for a lot of people.

I have been very open about my satisfaction with the multiple RA1/RA2 that I’ve had, but if Tikka had made a mini’ish 22 ARC, I wouldn’t have the RA GEN2 I have now.

But getting back on topic - I would venture to guess there aren't many tikkas shipped out with bores that look like this:

Only Ruger American I owned would jam with both magazine styles, sent it to Ruger 4x to give them ample opportunity to fix it or make it right and they never touched anything. Never had a feed issue with 5 different calibers of Tikkas.

Another good reason to not own a bore scope. 😁

But, to stick with the theme.
These are some pictures of a brand new Gen 1 RA in 308. Notice what seems to be grains of sand and a small piece of a granular something or other.
All this is as inside the action when I took it out of the box. IMG_0071.jpegIMG_0072.jpegIMG_0073.jpegIMG_0074.jpeg

Nothjng ever shot over 1.5”
From blue box 150’s to FGMM.

I’ll agree that whatever high school votech machinist class that does the work for Ruger aren’t very attentive or clean, but they build some accurate rifles. 😁

Alright guys what changes when we throw Bergaras into the mix? Seems like Bergara vs Tikka would be a better comparison and long term move than the Rugers.
