Hey Guys,
Got a mountain goat hunt in 6 weeks and i am looking for a hands free gun sling for a Mystery Ranch Metcalf. In the past I've just used either a standard sling or strapped it into a side pocket, but I never feel confident it's going to stay there. and on this hunt i want no doubts about it! I want something totally hands free, quick deploy would be nice but more interested in a rock solid mounting system so when i fall down the mountain the gun stays on the pack rather than shotting me...

Been looking at a few wanted to hear suggestions or maybe ones not to get. Have looked at Kifaru gun Bearer, Stone Glacier Quick release, and Slick sling. Anything i am missing? Seems people love and hate all of them??

Side note if you have one you want to sell LMK, always interested in saving a little money if possible.

I have the Kuiu quick draw, but set it up on my pack like the kifaru gun bearer. I thought I would hate carrying a rifle like that, but for me, I absolutely loved it. I would recommend the gun bearer setup/style carry.

is the sling mystery ranch makes not what your looking for? i havnt personally seen one so not sure but thought it mounted to the pack also. again i may be way wrong

As mentioned already I’d steer away from the mystery ranch route or any other slung over the shoulder design. Your rifle rolls off your shoulder every time you lean forward and is quite a pain to deal with.

Exo has a quick release rifle carrier and has worked pretty well for me. Looks to be similar to the kifaru but ran behind the shoulder.

I’ve not read anything good about mystery ranch sling, hence it not being on the list

The Kifaru Universal Gun Bearer works well on my Mystery Ranch pack. I wasn't sure if could get used to the location and position of a rifle in the Gun Bearer. But after a short time, I have come to prefer it over any other rifle sling. It is truly hands free and deploys very quickly. None of the others that I have tried or researched seem to offer that combination.

I no longer use a carrier but when I did use one, I liked to have it behind my shoulder by the frame in a kifaru gun bearer. Worked well enough. I didn’t like having the gun in front of me.

I like the original slik sling. Simple as it gets, can mount to any pack. If you have access to a sewing machine you can make one for around $15 in parts and material.

Never been a fan of gunbearer or any sling that puts the rifle in front, especially for steep hunts like goats.

I’ve been using the FHF sling, haven’t used any of the others so don’t have anything to compare it to but it’s comfortable to carry, stays where it’s supposed to and I can have it in my hands in a couple seconds if needed

I have been looking to add EXO rifle carrier to my pack. I use an Eberlestock pack. Will it work for me? Is it universal?

I like my silk sling a lot. Just as secure as strapped to my pack but you don’t have to take your pack off to strap and un-strap rifle. Pretty quick access with a little practice.

Seconding the FHF recommendation here, I’ve been very very happy with this one for years now. It does flop around, works on rifles and shotguns, and functions as a proper sling if you want to ditch the pack.

I had one of these previous versions of the slick sling on my pop up.

I did not like it at all. The bottom cradle was always slipping sliding and adjusting itself. The upper strap would start off Ok but eventually work itself to a weird spot and the entire rifle would be swinging and no longer secure.

I tried everything I could to stop it but nothing worked. The new version looks like it may have addressed the issue though.
