Governor Tags - Deer, Elk, etc.

What landowners, most of the state is public land.
There’s a pile of winter ground and ag ground in eastern AZ that is OTC where bulls from 3’s get murdered. Lots smaller places. The Ag industry has lobbied hard to limit the expansion and size of elk herd instate. Alot the State is OTC for elk with 9 month seasons.

When hunters banned together to save America's deer and elk from near extinction not a single tag was auctioned off to raise money "to put more critters on the mountain". To say without governor tags all is lost goes against proven history.

To much emphasis now days is put on chasing the banquet dollar rather than funding models that are long lasting. To many hands get a piece of the pie before those funds hit the ground. Entire organization's built solely around auctioning tags. When you can build a business with full time staff by auctioning off tags something has gone by the way side.

Name an organization that is entirely funded by state issued Auction tags..

Guess we'll see if Arizona implodes without auction tags, I'll bet they'll still find a way to keep sheep on the mountain.

The last 40 years of reaping the benefits of the auction tags surely didn’t hurt the population.

No dog in this fight. I would like to see full disclosure on where the money goes. Does it go to administration or conservation? Full accountability of every dollar, then we can have a good conversation. :sneaky:
I think that really is the rub- some organizations focus on getting as money as possible back to conservation and some just blame their higher overhead costs.

As much as I dislike auction tags in the right hands that money can make huge improvements. The money can be ear marked for a dedicated project or as seed money where other entities will contribute after a certain amount is raised. For example wyoming department of transportation migration corridor program is typically funded by NGO money then the state and federal DOT will grant funds for project completion. Listen about it here- https://www.rokslide.com/mule-deer-days-wildlife-conservation-mashup/

To say auction tags are the best or only way to fund projects is ludicrous but it's definitely the easiest to raise and also the easiest to distribute those funds. It's proven to be a great way to focus on habitat improvement with a very narrow scope. Used in moderation with heavy oversight it's another tool and everything is more expensive and has less public support for conservation. Slippery slope for sure.

The missouri tax works out to $16 per person annually. Sales taxes are regressive. So I would very much support a progressive tax that would target the rich and still bring the same income. My guess is you will hate any tax that targets the rich based on your other stances.
So you want an even playing field for tags but you want the rich to pay for everything with nothing in return?

I didn’t say that at all. I’m just wondering why he believes some people should be treated even for some things and not others.
You can't understand why I think everyone should have equal access to a public resource while at the same time the rich should pay more for the resource? Have you heard of income tax brackets?

Exactly the reason people don’t want to be paying more taxes.
Sweet. Let's cut military funding and put towards conservation. Since you're obviously just don't want to pay more total in taxes. We can keep the tax burden the same and shift where we spend money.

Last time we did the OTC tags for Elk the crop damage was on a 5 acre parcel near St. Joseph. Total joke. The OTC tags are in areas not traditionally known to hold Elk. Just like the Kaibab, Mt Graham,Dewey. Good luck ;) Crop damage no way, not like you guy's up north for sure. I think our herd is hanging around 35-40k.

I wouldn’t be against that. Not sure why you’d insinuate I would be but ok. Anyone who thinks we should give our government more of our money until they prove it’s being spent wisely is out of their mind.

Why should they pay more if it’s equal? Just because they have more money than you? Maybe there was a guy who couldn’t afford to get in the raffle you won. Maybe you should give your tag to him.

I don't think you understand the basic needs of a modern society. Rich pay more. That's pretty clear throughout our society. Maybe if you keep defending billionaires, one day you'll become one lol.
