Spouse had several gout flare ups many years back. He tried the tart cherry juice, changing diet somewhat and it didn't help.
His uric acid levels did not warrant taking meds so his Doc said drink lots of water all day. He told him he should be drinking and peeing several times a day.
No changes to diet now or alcohol drinking habits and no gout flares in many years.
The only issue was a kidney stone several year back, not long after he started drinking more water. Doc said it was related but no stones since.

We also eat mainly wild game for red meat and plenty of sausage too. Beans are also a part of our diet.

For those of you on allopurinol, does it act like an aphrodisiac? Or is it just me?

Wayminit, I'm bout to ditch this Colchicine and Febustat for Alpirinol.
Lady friend's biscuits, cornbread, homemade sourdough bread and buddy's 165 proof apple pie moonshine bout to cripple me the last week. Christmas cheer!!!

Gout is awful.

The one time i had it I'm pretty sure it was due to being dehydrated and eating like trash for nearly a week. Fried backstrap, hamburgers, steaks, I ate red meat for like 6 days while being dehydrated for nearly as long. Doc said drink more water and don't do that again, so we'll see.

Here is my 2 cents. I get gout in toes, feet, elbow, and shoulder if i let it.

It isnt “just” the game meat.

Soda
Booze
Beer
Sugar
Dehydration
Overweight

Are my big ones. Dehydration is no. 1 on my list.

You go on allopurinol and you’ll look at your lady friend’s biscuits in a new way.

My dad gets gout flareups. He didnt really drink much, and went cold turkey after. hardly any sugar already, etc. He says red meat continues to cause flare ups. Couple years ago I made a venison wellington for Christmas and he said that caused a flare up. He’s in his mid-80’s. Claims the gout has made all his favorite foods off-limits. Thats about all I know.

Add beer and that's pretty much my staple diet.

If it says "refined" or "fortifide", avoid it like the plague.

Also fructose corn syrup.

People have been eating fruits and grains for thousands of years. Don't let the natural "carbs" scare you away unless you know for certain that it's a cause as mentioned in post #25.

For my two gout episodes, it was consumption of salt-cured meats.
OP-is your wild game cured or brined?
Sausages?
Just a thought.

People have also been getting gout for thousands of years.

Quite certain if "carbs" were a major issue to the human diet, it would've been cut out a long time ago.

Natural instinct is to avoid what causes discomfort. Only the modern person relies on medicine to counter act it...
