Got my CVA Accura dialed in today

Went to the range this morning and fine tuned my Accura for Colorado hunting.

I’ve mentioned what I use for powder/bullets before, I made a little tweak to the setup by using a thin cork wad.

CVA Accura V2 - stock gun/sights

90gr (volume) Pyrodex P

420gr No Excuses bullet (with a .062 cork wad)

1376 fps

Tight group at 50yds and a ‘Minute of Elk’ group at 115yds

Shots were taken with gun resting on my pack to simulate a hunting situation

I was very impressed with the accuracy of the CVA inline Muzzleloaders. The only experience I had was with their flintlock, and I’m sure the accuracy issues were with the shooter one those also! Good luck!

Awesome ! It looks like the no excuses bullets would be legal in Idaho as well.

I also shoot an Acura V2. I find it very reliable.

I shoot the TC Maxi Hunter 350 gr with 100 gr of triple 7 (loose powder) and mandatory musket caps (Idaho rules).

I used to shoot those bullets.

Just for fun, cut some felt or thin cork wads just a tad bigger than .500” and slide them down the barrel before the conical bullet.

There’s plenty of chatter about doing this on some forums with great grouping results.

Are you finding better accuracy with the new bullets? What was your motivation for the switch. Certainly willing to try something new. They are a lot heavier.

I’ve used NE bullets for about 4 years now.

I have MLs set up for Colorado and Nebraska.
My Nebraska guns have scopes and I use NE sabots.

Colorado guns all shoot the 420gr NE bullets.

After I used the sizing pack and determined what bullet best fit my guns, the accuracy was much better.

What's your comfortable effective range shooting with open sights? Curious if you've tried the Williams peep/front globe setup. I'm starting my prep for CO muzzy season. I'd probably be happy with 2" groups at 75 yds..

I’ve considered a peep/globe setup.
I shot NRA competition 22 rifles waaaay back when with a peep.


I shot this bull 23 years ago with a 50cal Hawken - 125yds

I know my Accura will shoot double that distance effectively, but I won’t try with open sights.

i too have a cva accura v2 lr. i also shoot the no excuse 420 grain bullets in the .503. At the range all good however i did have a misfire. where are you getting these corks from? if you are actually cutting them down can you explain a bit more as this may be my issue due to the lube on the NE bullets direct on the 209 powder. Also shooting 90 grains.

For this year i did upgrade and bout the paramount pro. However keeping the V2 as well as a back up. Set up with globe site. Thanks for the help cnelk in advance - always appreciate your expert advice man

I got a roll of gasket material from Tractor Supply. It’s like $7.
Enough cork for a few years lol

I just use an exacto knife and cut around the base of the bullet.

You could use a 1/2” leather punch, but be sure it cuts just over .500”

I’ve used felt wads over the powder in my flintlock and they helped a bit with accuracy. Track of the Wolf has them.

This cva might be my next addition.
