I've finally put everything together and finished my tent. It's a GoLite SL5 with a Bearpaw Designs Pyranet 2 nest and stove jack. The stove is a Kifaru medium box stove. It looks like it should work pretty well though I should have done the nest differently. I should have opted for the 10" silnylon on three sides option, and chosen the inverted T door zipper. The Silnylon sides would have been nice for I will need to pitch the nest sides of the tent as close to the ground as possible in case of rain. Also, with the right hand zipper, I have to walk around the stove to gain access to the nest. I may sell this nest and buy another one with those mods. The nest is very well made and BP designs had my tent and nest shipped back to me in less than a week.

Very nice setup. I also went with the sl5 and stove jack. I had my nest made with the silnylon sides and a mesh front. After setting it up and playing with it I wish I would have gone with silnylon on the front also. Another mod I had done was to double the stake out points on the bottom. It allows for you to get a much better seal to the ground and also choose what stake you want to put in if it is rocky or just has bad placement. I went with the ed t stove and have been loving it. We have planned a kodiak goat trip this year and I purchased the sawtooth for that trip because of the hight wind possibility. Still not sure if the sl5 could hold up. But it is my new favorite. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Ed T Stove

Telkla, what size of Ed T stove did you go with for your Sawtooth? I am going to purchase a Sawtooth this summer but haven't decided on a stove yet. Would you go with the same stove or something different now?

What is the total wieght of the tent and BP net?

I'm not exactly sure as I haven't weighed it but here's some general weights from websites.

17oz for the nest. I chose the 70d Silnylon over 30d

29oz for the fly not including stove jack, pole, paracord or stakes.

5lbs, 6oz for the Kifaru medium stove.

My guess would be the complete shelter and nest will be in the 3-4 pound range minus the stove.

Yikes, I didn't realize that stove was that heavy. Also, I believe the stove jack is right around 8oz if I recall correctly.

Here are a couple pics of my setup. I don't have an inner nest (yet) but all packed up in a back pouch it comes in at 6lbs. This is also using trekking poles as the center pole.

Colonel, what stove is that? Man, I am really having a hard time choosing a shelter. I really am leaning towards the SL5. In the same realm however, I like the looks of the seek outside backcountry shelter2.

I think I am going to go with some sort of bigger pyramid type floorless shelter, for buddy trips and late season stuff. For solo trips and early season, I am not sure yet, but I am leaning towards a smaller tarp like shelter, maybe Kifaru, tarptent contrail, or heximid solo from zpacks. I wish I knew what they were going to be coming out with this summer, in order to see if I should wait it out or not.

It is a DIY stove that bbrown came up with. Check out the DIY section in the forum. I think it is right around 2lbs for the stove and pipe. It isn't the biggest stove but should hopefully work for all that I need for this year at least.

I didn't bother stuffing the nest in with the tent since I'm going to sell it. I weighed the tent with factory pole, stuff sack, and aluminum pegs with extras and it came in at 4lbs or so.

Last night I fired up the stove and it was putting out so much heat that my wife and I were able to set up chairs in the doorway of the tent and stay warm. Temps were in the mid 50's so not that cold. With the door of the tent closed, the tent was very warm. I had the stove stoked hot a couple times where I had a 6"-12" flame coming out of the top of the stove pipe and no heat issues with the nest. With this configuration, I can put two people in the nest and a third on the non nest side with room to spare for packs and fire wood. This is my first experience with tent/stove combos and I'm very happy with it. It's amazing how fast these stoves burn through wood though.

How much are you looking for to get out of your nest....I may have a buyer if the price is right.

Anyone have any insight on light weight solo tent, would be for early season fair weather hunting mostly. I was looking into Paratipi, Zpacks hexamid solo, or tarptent contrail. I think getting one of these, then a larger tent (SL5 etc.) is the route I am going. Just not sure which single person shelter to grap.

^^^^ This. My plan is to use this for solo trips where I will pack in and set this up as a base camp. I'm also thinking about buying a paratarp to use as a bivy if I don't want to hike back to camp at night.
