Anyone have any insight on light weight solo tent, would be for early season fair weather hunting mostly. I was looking into Paratipi, Zpacks hexamid solo, or tarptent contrail. I think getting one of these, then a larger tent (SL5 etc.) is the route I am going. Just not sure which single person shelter to grap.

I have an SL5 as well, but my go to solo shelter for the mountains is the MLD Duomid. Mine is 26 ounces seam sealed, with stakes and guylines. It has withstood some fairly high winds and is easier to find a small ledge to pitch it on as opposed to the SL5. It offers plenty of room for me and my gear to wait out storms.

It's their standard Pyranet 2 but with the 70d Silnylon floor, right hand zipper.

Check out the SL 3... It's perfect for an ultralight solo tent. I use mine floor-less at just under 2lbs. Still has a ton of room for gear.

But a for a few oz penalty and not much more $$$ you get way more space out of the sl5.

Finally had a chance to try the shelter out last night in the mountains. We had a little bit of rain/sleet last night and no leaks were present in the tent. I'm guessing that temps were in the upper 20's, low 30's as it read 34* on my trucks t-stat when I was up at 06:30. I was using a thermarest Zlite sol pad with an ancient thermarest airpad on top. My sleeping bag is an ancient North Face Mummy that I've had for over 20 years, I'm guessing it's rated at 30* since I had it when I lived in AZ.
I started off by firing up the stove just before I went to bed, stuffed my dog into the nest and then settled in. Before I knew it, the stove was ripping and I was hot. My dog had her own blanket and she must have been too hot for she opted to sleep on top of her blanket at some point in the night. This was fine until about 3 or 4am when she got cold and woke me up while trying to squeeze into the mummy bag with me. If you've ever owned a German Shorthaired Pointer, you know how stubborn and persistent they can be when they have their mind made up. So, after Mission Impossible failed, I reached my arm out of the nest, tossed some wood into the stove along with a solid fuel tablet, lit the tablet and all was well. It only takes a couple minutes for the stove to heat up the tent. I'd say the tent worked great, no condensation and I had plenty of room inside for my pack and wood for the stove. I still plan to get a different nest from Bear Paw but this thing is a keeper until I can save up enough money for a Kifaru Sawtooth.

That nest should solve a couple of the issues that bothered me about my old SL5- pictured [ I sold it many years ago]
Pic is in Co, about 9 miles into the Wiminuche [unit 76] at about 10,400' on the archery elk hunt

Dang, that stove is heavy. My homebrew stove was just under 2#, worked pretty good but you have to stoke it often.

I went on an overnight backpacking trip with my wife last night and found that with me, my wife, and dog it is a very "cozy" fit. The nest is perfect for one person, but last night I was smashed against the wall of the nest and tent. Thankfully it wasn't raining.

Update: I purchased a Seek Outside Nest and finally had a chance to pitch it inside of the SL-5. I can already tell I like this nest a lot better than the BPD nest I had purchased. It's a little bit smaller, but it packs down to about half the size of the BPD and it has more guy outs. The quality is great as well and after seeing this, I'm leaning towards buying a BCS from them next year. I also like the zipper arrangement since now I can access the nest on the left or right meaning I will not have to walk around the stove to get inside the nest. Here's some pics

Gratuitous pathetic looking dog pic for size reference.
